When in Rome?

Here's something that worked better than expected. I installed a 15MM shorter shock with adjustable preload on my bike and it just felt a little too soft, So after ordering a C-Spanner wrench from Amazon, (to adjust it of course...$8), I thought to myself, 'what if I was in ancient Rome with only the tools in this garage...what would I use to compress the spring so just a pair of channel-locks would work to turn the adjuster?'

2 small C-clamps did the trick! There was on each side...one decided to fall before I took the photo. See that it is at the highest (firmest) adjustment. It was just enough to relieve some of the pressure. At least I got a new C-Spanner out of it!
