I must say, I am a big believer in the CG motor. It wasn't something I accepted, but more proven over time riding the HAWK, the Magician, and some riding the X-pect. Sheer power numbers do not really tell the story. It is about where and how the power is generated and how it is used that makes a big difference.
The CG has proven its excellence to me in the world I like to ride, up and down elevated terrain. The mid range torque and throttle response is outstanding coming off 4000 rpm.
I don't know anything about the 172fm and maybe it is as good, but I worked out a KLX 250 a year ago on the same terrain and it was to me gutless in the mid range but might do 80 mph down the highway. Laying down good power in a smooth effective way. That makes me smile!
The more I ride it, the more I have come to respect the performance generated by this simple engine design. CG strong, ride hard!
