Not necessarily, it could be the short(if present) causing the ignition to mis fire, OR it could be causing issues with the fuel injection. I assume that if it's the brake light switch (and I am pretty sure it is) that there is a loose hot wire with either an exposed uninsulated terminal, or with the insulation skinned off of it, and it's probably swinging around and hitting the frame, or a bolt, and shorting.
