Mystery Solved - Back On The Road

I have been fiddling with my carburetor for about three weeks and the motor breaks up around 4,000 rpm. I finally got it to the point where it at least was drivable, but it still ran a little rough. In the meantime while I was working on the carb, the exhaust baffle, which I had welded once before broke again.
So, today I thought I'd go get the baffle welded again and see if that improved the performance any.

Before the guy welded it, he said I should take the seat and side panels off so he could disconnect the ignition wires before he welded, as a precaution. I thought he was nuts, but I did it anyway, and he found a loose wire in one of the plugs. I had only just checked the plugs themselves, not the individual wires.

Now, with the exhaust baffle welded and the wire reconnected, the bike runs like a top, so I'm back in business!

Thanks to everybody for all advice given; I really appreciate it!!
