tbr7 home .. again idle questions

SO got it home and it running! finally. Looking for some idle advice.
Mechanic put in a new carb. I could not get it to stay running. no matter how long it was warming up i would walk away it would stall. I turned idle screw up a quarter turn. stayed running. Now when it has been driven awhile it seems too idle high. but it shifts smooth going into 1st and starting out.
I start with full choke then go to half choke. usually forget to go no choke.

Is there away to find out where idle is at or tell if it is too high? I don't want to hurt the bike.
this is my beginner bike. so there is a learning curve.

Sounds like the idle mixture needs to be adjusted. A tachometer of some form is good for at least this type of issue and setting a proper idle speed. Even a cheap one used for lawn mower tuning is all you really need.
