Hawk down again
Damn stuck on the side of road now cause the hawk shut off. I was going about 62 when all of a sudden I hear this clank and the bike just died. Got off to look and I see my air hose that connects to my carb is off and the screw is missing. Only thing I can think is my engine sucked up the screw for my clamp. I’m pretty sure that’s what happened cause when I kick it over something’s rattling inside I can hear it. Either my screw or something broke off in it. At least I’ll have all weekend to figure it out. Damn

Thankfully the cylinder heads on these engines are pretty easy to remove. Hopefully the damage isn't too bad.

Man, That bike is jinxed. You should be an expert on disassembling and assembling that engine by now. Hopefully there's no major damage. Hope for the best.

What are the chances of removing the top end off and pulling the screw out and it running fine or am I definitely gonna need a new cylinder head. Do I have to drain the oil to remove the top to get to the screw. Yeah bikes for sure jinxed.

You can pull the head without draining the oil. You can check for piston or valve damage when you do that.

So I pulled the top off as much as I could and the valves still look good I can see some scratches on cylinder wall. Did find small piece of metal in there. The clamp that held my air tube to carb wasn’t wanting to tighten because the hole the screw goes through on clamp started to stretch so I had a washer on screw, I’m thinking maybe that got sucked into engine I don’t think screw would make it through. I know it has to do with something with my air hose clamp because as soon as bike broke and I inspected first thing I noticed was my air hose off of carb. I left my bike at work I’m gonna pick up tomorrow and have to split the engine again. When I had the top off I cranked the kick start and my piston isn’t going up and down anymore. Sucks, I’ll open it up this weekend and post my results.

Wow... I'm trying to figure out how a clamp on the outside of the air intake broke and made it inside your engine? your calmer than I'd be. Hats off to you brother and good luck.

That's me, and you have the wrong end of the intake. I have a CRF230F intake, aka "manifold" or "Carburetor Insulator Socket". In short, the bit that bolts to the head.
