Hi-Bird 250 repair help..
Hello,
I was offroading this past summer when I hit a rut and flipped her. She survived pretty well besides some cosmetic damage, I was able to adjust handlebars and ride it out. I've been riding it as is since then. Weather is starting to get nice again here in CO so I decided to take her out for a spin for the first time all winter. I flipped the petcock on and gas started leaking out of the petcock front plate pretty rapidly.. Tried tightening it to no luck.. seems like a seal is blown in there.. Anyways I was wondering if you guys could help me track down a few parts I need to get her back to tip top shape.. I need a new rear fender/taillight, the black plastic part.. My battery box snapped off again, so I'll need another one of those.. Also, when i flipped the bike the impact against the rut/rock bent the front rim some.. Not too bad, but can definetly see the rim shake when riding at higher speeds... A new petcock.. Also, when I took delivery of her I noticed some oil leakage from the rear shock.. The ride seems pretty harsh when I go over a small pothole in the road, so i think i might need a new or better rear shock.. Also in the pic below of the petcock, I just noticed im missing some bolt that seems to connect the upper frame below the seat to the upper part of the engine.. It seems offset right now, wonder if thats adding to some engine vibes i have..? I'd appreciate any help you guys could give me. I'm looking forward to a good spring/summer of riding so I'd like to get her fixed up good. Jason PICS: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I reinforced the edges of my battery box with small pieces of sheet metal and rivets. The box is now as strong as steel. Reinforcing your existing box is much easier than looking for a steel box.
You're definitely missing a bolt and nut on your engine mount.

Seems like i'd have to get a new plastic box before I could reinforce it.. The last one broken in half pretty much.. Dragon, does your bike nosedive a lot when you brake modaretly? Thanks

I've only ridden two bikes in my motorcycle life. The other bike was a brand new Honda Rebel 250. My Hibird nose dive as much as my Rebel, maybe a little bit more. So, I think it's normal. At first, it feels scary, and the rear tire would lose traction very easily . But, I learn that if I use rear brakes properly, there is less nose dive.
