FM 167 MM Starter Motor

I picked up a fairly new looking Zongshen FM 167 MM motor for a Honda XR 200 basket case. The engine came out of a Chinese 250 street bike that was supposedly totaled out with less than 50 miles. Engine looks like new.

However, when I got the engine the LH stator cover was removed along with the starter motor, which I found to be a bit odd why these were removed?

I brought it home, put the stator cover back on, along with a new stator that came long with the $60 complete wiring harness for it off Amazon, and I'm able to get the engine to spin, but the starter is spinning on the opposite direction. I have the battery polarity correct, red to positive side battery and black to negative. I read that some of the 200 lifan starters spun in different direction? later models were specific to air cooled "250s" and spun in a different direction ? All the parts look like new, so perhaps they dropped a new starter on it (which was for a 200) and couldn't get the engine to run and unloaded it to me.

Any ideas on starter motors specific to the FM 167 MM series?

By your description, you're saying that the starter is turning the wrong way, right?

You've probably got the wrong polarity for the starter, these engines all turn the same way. Where you've got negative hooked up, it should be positive, or vice versa.

Starter Clutch

The starter clutch spinning the wrong way was due to the starter clutch was on backwards. I removed it, flipped it around to match the arrows on the flywheel and now the motor spins over... Next is the amazon wiring harness..
