Hybird Consideration/Questions

This is mostly to Universal_Diver and other Hybird users as I have a Lifan now that I love but cannot get it plated in my state. In the meantime I had an idea to buy a Hibird as UD suggested. I may end up keeping both if I can get it plated or selling the Lifan if I cannot. You can see the reg post in the reg issues section. This is a reply to..

They are $1,350 from him, about the same as the Lifan. I will have to save up for a month or so and I might be able to get one. Here are my concerns.

#1. Are the Hibird the ones that have catilitic converts and other emissions junk on them?

#2. Is it possible to buy a "Grey" Hybird? I don't want any reg problems, are they 50 state DOT legal?

#3. Will the CDI box and similar mods work with it?

#4. Are they counter balanced engines?

#5. Do you know if the flames and star stickers come off easily?

#6. I don't remember Hibird being in the list of approved bikes at the DMV so I may end up in the same position if I go that route and having another "No Go" 8O

#7 Can the Chinariders community (you guys) or the dealer I buy it from guarantee that I can get it registered in CT and won't have the same thing happen? I can't afford another financial hit of that magnitude.

#8 I was reading your posts about your bike it looks like you had a bunch of carb problems with it?

#9 Sorry for all the questions and thanks for the help.

If it were me, I'd buy a frame from a parted out Honda, Suzuxi, etc bike that IS DMV friendly and change out a vin tag. Umm, er, I mean replace all the parts on the legal bike so you can register and ride THE LEGAL BIKE ON THE ROAD!

#2. The MSO on my Hi Bird says the vehicle type is "Enduro". My local registration office accepted the MSO without question, and I got a license plate. You might want to check your state about that.

#5. The flames are cool. Keep it.

lol the flames and stars remind me of Evel Knievel. All the kids use to be like him and put stars and flames on their bikes.

Look where he ended up.. wow, I remember when he was young!

I don't think a zook or honda frame would let me bolt a lifan engine or parts on it. I would also need a title for the frame and it seems like it would be a whole mess of work. I don't have time to nor the skills to fabricate what would be needed to put Lifan parts on to another frame but thanks for the idea.

I think it would be a bad Idea for you to buy a HI Bird. My opinion.

Maybe you should just buy another Lifan. My opinion again.

I was at the DMV in Florida for a total of 1/2 hour including waiting time.
My carb problems were mainly a joke post between me and another member, sorry for the confusion. I did have a very commen and very simple carb problem that was basically caused by myself as I did ZERO prep on my bike. I added gas and rode. Thats how I do it usually. Sometimes I pay for it in the long run but thats how I do my part to help the economy

I know nothing about your states dmv laws, but I would call Tim at the 1 800 number on his site, he has given me no reasons to not trust him, and see what he says. Plus, you should never pay advertised price. They will all bargain to some degree or another.

My emissions were gone in about as long as it took me to get a tag. 1/2 hour. My flames and stars were gone just as fast....

Hey UD, how did you plug up the hole in the exhaust header after you removed all the emission crap?

Awesome! I will take it into consideration especially if I can get up a grand. No more "joke threads"

Thanks. Can you tell me, what about a hibird that you don't like? Quality of parts, design? My spell checker changes Hibird to Hybird for some reason so I just go with it. If you don't want to get flammed from hibird lovers in public you can reply in PM as to what you don't like about them that would be awesome.

OK, let me say this more directly. Buy a used frame with a title ($50.00 on eBay). Go title that frame (imaginary bike), and just pop rivet the VIN tag to your bike. There I said it.

I cut off the stub up with a cut off wheel and filled the hole in with weld.

For the cat itself I cut the pipe again with the cutoff wheel and removed the guts then rewelded the plate that was cut off....

Yea I understand what your saying. Problem is a lot of people already do that and that's why if the title for the frame/bike that I buy is from out of state (most all on ebay would be) The DMV will require what is called a "vin check" like I had to do on this one where they look the bike over and verify the frame, bike and vin is legit and all match up. On the road a blue bike can't pass for a honda but maybe yamaha.. Also all the newer enduros I have seen use stamped frames not vin plates like on a car. I don't care about the numbers I guess the biggest problem is finding a CT enduro title. CT does not have that many enduro's floating around but I will start looking. If anyone knows of one let me know. Red do you not have vin checks for out of state bikes in your state?

PS: Thanks for the ideas..

They were going to issue me temp plates to drive to the inspection. I should of taken them then the worst I could get is an expired plate ticket right? Too bad they are paper and would fall apart in a hard breeze or when water hits it. Not only that but paper plates gets the attn of passing cops. You just have to play their games and find a loophole, its unfortunate.

I have not been disapointed with my Hi Bird. That is well documented on here. But it is just MY Opinion and as such worth what you pay for it.
