Zong Sierra 200 Gear Oil Change

Greetings:

I recently bought a Sierra 200 and it works great. I really like it a lot. This is my first MC and I use it to go to work mostly. The "manual" says to change engine oil every 800 miles and I figured that out pretty easy. It also says to change gear oil every 1000 miles. I do not see how to drain and refill the gear oil and the manual is almost useless.

Anyone out there able to give me a quick set of directions for gear oil change?

Thanks,

Ken

Interesting, unless your bike has a completely different motor that the rest of us, the tranny is lubed by the engine oil and no separate change is needed. Can you post a photo of your bike/motor?

Ken,

Welcome, and congratulations on getting your first motorcycle!

Liverchip is correct. The Zongshen Sierra 200 uses the same oil to lubricate both the engine and the gearbox. I change the oil in my Zongshen every 1,500 miles or so. Continue to change your oil frequently, and you should continue to get good service from your engine.

It is very important to clean the reusable oil filter, and to perform several other checks at every oil change for the Sierra 200GY-2. Therefore, I will soon post this information in another thread.

Thanks Guys for the quick reply.

When I first got the motorcycle it looked (at least externally) that the lub oil was all that needed to be changed. Then I came across the comment in the paper work that mentions "gear oil" They must have been talking about the same oil as lub oil. Since I had never actually dismantled a motorcycle engine it occured to me that maybe I did not really understand how it was put together. I figured that it was safer to ask here about gear oil and make sure I don't miss something.

Again, thanks,

Ken
