Can you solve the riddle

Turned on ignition no starter, lights, gear indicator nothing. I can kick to start it up, and after a while, gear indicator slowly lights up as do other bulbs. When I roll on throttle all lights dim down to nothing. Volts dip to 9.5 across the battery when I give throttle. If I try to ride it'll konk out. Battery at 12.8 and holding charge when not running. Any ideas? When I hit the kill switch, even the emergency light shuts off and it is a very low watt bulb. The gear indicator is led, and it fades as soon as I hit the kill. At idle once it's built up enough juice to light the gear indicator it flickers in time to the engine.

This was my pannicked post, I've since fully fixed the problem.

To this I will add, I had to solder a wire to my headlight bulb assembly before the problem started, but everything worked when I turned off the bike for supper. I haven't started a thread in a month. Can you solve the riddle? N2r.

i was going to guess some wire was squished, stripped, melted, or otherwise shorting... or some kind of ground issue... and you said you had to do something with a wire... so..?

Oh good, I thought I made it too easy. I was going to give red herrings like my regulator was just replaced. Jim is on the right track, but you can't give 4 answers to a riddle, the troll throws you over a bridge. I didn't melt or solder over another wire, everything was pre-tinned before connection. It was not a cold solder.

OK ok, I blew the main fuse figuring out where to seat the wire to the light assay. No power to of from battery. My fuse box came with an extra fuse and I popped it in. The gear indicator comes on strong as ever, I hit the starter and it fires right up. "You grounded a positive lead." Knothead nailed it.

I didn't intend to annoy anyone :(

2 weeks ago I stopped a 7 girls from vandalizing our street. They were smashing all the solar lights. I got swarmed, 5 stitches and a cracked tooth from a purse with a beer bottle in it. The cops got the girls.

Last night our neighbors house was burnt down by an arson. No one hurt. I'm already a little jumpy 8O. I can't afford to tick anyone off just now

The reason I knew to check the fuse was because I had to find a reachable place for it when I moved the battery. My fusebox is on the pos. battery lead. :wink:

Heck, I wouldn't care if they were girls. With a 7 to 1 ratio I'd have something to even things out a bit, and at my age it's going to be something that goes boom!... Then again a six foot piece of rattan or a pair of chucks would be pretty fun too!

But I do respect you for keeping those girls occupied until the popo showed up!

Seriously, it took some cahoonies (sp??) to take a stand like that and I applaud you. But you should have went armed, even girls might be carrying knives, pepper spray or worse. Some of the redneck girls I have dated have carried everything from brass knuckles to .38's! (what can I say, redneck gals just leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling inside!)
