Tricks to make things easier!
I have done stuff that make things easier to work on our bikes and am starting this thread, hoping to see, what others may have to offer. Some things may be obvious to the pro-mechanic, but this is for the less initiated. My contribution is using the "Soft Straps" as lifting devices with a ratchet hooked to the rafter and/or lag-bolt and to show the brake-spring tool that makes installing your kickstand spring a piece of cake!

More importantly, is that a 1965 Corvair in your garage? Nice ideas for lifting btw. Where do you get the spring tool?

When in Rome?
Here's something that worked better than expected. I installed a 15MM shorter shock with adjustable preload on my bike and it just felt a little too soft, So after ordering a C-Spanner wrench from Amazon, (to adjust it of course...$8), I thought to myself, 'what if I was in ancient Rome with only the tools in this garage...what would I use to compress the spring so just a pair of channel-locks would work to turn the adjuster?'
2 small C-clamps did the trick! There was on each side...one decided to fall before I took the photo. See that it is at the highest (firmest) adjustment. It was just enough to relieve some of the pressure. At least I got a new C-Spanner out of it! |
