Kink in fuel line 250cc Komoto/Hi-bird

I am wondering if anyone has had any problems with their fuel line. Recently, I replaced the cheap, flimsy black fuel line that runs from the fuel shut off valve to the carberetor with some clear rigid line. It's a lot better, but I fear that the line might kink again over time. I cut this line a lot shorter. Was that a good choice? Should I have a super long line that allows for a loop and no kink? How about a line that is reinforced with some kink of non-kinking material?

I too replaced the stock fuel line. I ran a bit long and looped it.

If you remove the fuel filter, the line will not kink.

Roketas don't include fuel filters, as I understand. They must think it's alright.

Its just my opinion. Ive been a mechanic many years, and when younger I would try to skimp on a fuel filter. It always bit me in the azz. It may not bite right away, but it will bite. There is a sort of filter in the tank. But in my exsperience they arnt great.

I'm not a mechanic, so just ignore what I wrote. lol. But, it is true that without the filter, the line won't kink.

There is a filter that has an input on the top and an output on the side. That may help with your configuration.

My kinks also. If there is a big loop, will that adversely affect the carb?

No, thats a small loop.It wont matter. It may be hard to get it flowing if you run it out of fuel. I loop them to it just works out that way.

If you use real good FUEL line it wont kink at all...
I would stay away from clear line as it dries out and cracks. I used some on my Yamaha and one year later it is not cracked but is so hard it breaks instead of flexing... black rubber nylon reinforced 3/16 FUEL line is the ticket...you must remember to get clamps to fit at the parts store because the flimsy wire butterfly clamps will not clamp anything substantial and chances are it will not even fit around the good line anyways.
I was able to fit 2, 3" long fram fuel filters on the ATC 70 to keep the rust from infiltrating the carb...2 separate lines for res. and normal on the ATC tank... no kink issues at all and very little space needed if you can find someplace handy to tuck them in and zip tie to frame...

Consider replacing the petcock with one of standard length. Cost is about $18 and there is no problem with fuel line or fuel filter. See my gallery photo.
