If you seal it off the motor will die from fuel starvation. There will be no way for the air to replace the consumed fuel and therefore the fuel will lock itself in the fuel tank causing the motor to die.
Some newer cars as well as off road jeeps come with a check valve in the fuel cap to prevent fuel spillage in the event of a roll over. I'm sure you could rig something similar. |

I brought this up the other night in another thread. I'm still looking for a
better cap. If I find one I will let you know. Would appreciate the same in return.

The gas cap on my chinabike fell apart. I actually used the cap off of a marine gas can to get home from Sarnia. I had to Mcgyver the tabs so that the cap would seal. But I did a good job and it never failed. My bike was layed over when I tried to kick start it once. The marine cap held the fuel in. I think they're made to not leak. I doubt this helps you guys, just tryen to help.

when my cap plugged itself up it did indeed stopped the fuel from flowing and that wont do you any good.
The cap has a two small steel ball bearings that I guess is suppossed to allow to cap the breath but restrict the fuel flow if the bike is layed down. The does work but will not stop the fuel completely. If you have a dirt bike type cap, you know the ones with the fuel vent tube, then you can install a check valve that they sell for them. |

Yep TeamCheap, I'm pretty sure the marine cap was the little ball bearing type. I think my stock cap had rubber valves that didn't work too well keeping in the gas. Though it let air in great to equalize the pressure.

Top pic-left cap, looks to be about what we have on ours and those two little holes are part of the vent holes.
If you take it apart do it on some type of tray to catch the parts/springs and be ready to sit and do a puzzle. ![]() How about you just buy another cap that fits your bike then see if you can mod it to take a breather hose with check valve.I know the key will be a pain. I think the main reason our caps are press on is because of the key lock which when turned pulls the tabs back but its all a joke since our tanks are made of plastic and the cap I'm sure could just be pryed off but would most likely ruin the tank. ![]() Dirtbike/pitbike caps will just be screw on as they rarely use locking caps on those types of vehichles. Maybe you'll need to replace the whole tank with a dirtbike tank that has the regular simple better screw on cap. |

I have a mercedes gas cap. 8O
It fit right on the Dr350 gas tank. No lock, but it fits like the stock gas cap. The neck on the lifan tank was smaller. I have a plastic dr200 tank too. Might try that one out also. Allen
