big trouble!

okay, i was riding down one of the main streets and i rounded a corner in first. i let out the clutch and the bike felt like it stalled out. i started the bike right up and it runs with a horrible "clacking" noise coming from the case. the bike started up good and it drove to the next driveway good but i am now elbow deep in it and i have to have it running again by wednsday. i already got the magneto side off and everything looks okay. and ideas?

first off, I wish you the best of luck.

now I have to ask when the clatter starts? does it do it at an idle, at high speeds, when the clutch is in or out?

Give us a better description and we can be more accurate with the suggestions.

Peace Health and Prosperity,

Alonzo

edit: since you are pulling the cases, you might as well check this how to out and do some preventive maint, http://www.chinariders.net/modules.p...ewtopic&t=5141

okay, it makes the noise at ALL RPM ranges (although i tried to keep them low giving the circumstances) it makes the noise in neutral, 1st. i didnt get it over 1st for fear of more damage NO, MY KICKSTARTER IS NOT OUT/ DOWN. its not anything loose in the clutch side of things and its not in the magneto side. are there any pics of this motor split down the middle so i can see what im getting into?i will be checking this regularly to get more help and advice from you guys so....

okAY, THE BIKE IS ON A STAND AND IT SEEMS TO MAKE THE NOISE LOUDER WHEN ITS IN GEAR. this is done by putting it in gear and using the kick starter to turn the motor over (duh) i REALLY DONT WANT TO TAKE THIS MOTOR OUT!!!!

What did the oil look like was it silvery or did any chunks drop out when you drained it into a very clean container ?

Is it an OHC engine or pushrod ?

Can you shift it into all the gears just by hand and maybe rotating the rear tire and with the spark plug out to make it easy?

it goes into all gears relatively smoothly, the plug is out, both engine covers are off, it turns over smoothly and it hangs up just a little at TDC its a pushrod motor and..... i think that answers all questions. i HAVE to have this bike running. i am trucking it to california and i am going to be riding it around down there. otherwise, i will have to call for rides from my MOMMY's house. and no one wants to make a comeback asking for rides everywhere.... hell, no one wants to make a comeback on a chinabike! (i do)

have you checked the valves yet ?
making sure they both go up and down as you turn the engine and that they are set right.

the oil had a VERY small ammount of silver in the drainage. ONE THING! when i dumped the old oil from last oil change into the container, thiss spring and thimble-shaped screen came out with the oil. tell me these things dont belong in the motor. that would mean i went 400km with no oil screen!

when i listened to the enging for the 30 seconds i had it back home before i tore it apart, it sounded like it came from the lower half of the motor. i would rather it be the valves so i dont have to tear this whole things apart.

The spring and thimble shape screen belong in there. That is your filter.

yep that screen was the particle catch for your engine. check the valves. make sure they are at the proper clearance. seems like you have ruled out most of the typicle problems. If it is not the valves, you will probably be pulling the cases apart.

Take your time make yourself plenty of space to take the parts out and keep them in order.

Dont get all intimadated over cracking open the case. these bikes where built very simple. you wont be running into a lot of technical stuff.

oh ya when you start removing bolts use a torque wrench and write down the ft lbs for the bolts you pull.
