I'm looking at another company that insures old bikes. Most insure only up to 25 years old. At 36 years old my bike has few options. I might be able to get it down around $500, but no theft insurance. Once the bike it appraised by someone with an appraisal licence, I'll be able to get another policy for $50 for theft. Still $550 is better than $900. As for Kanuk insurance being out of wack, I'd use stronger words than that. No matter who you go with in the states, you're getting a great deal. :P N2r.

Geico did mine with minimal coverage for $60.00 bucks a year and that is even with a reckless driving charge in the previous month.

Also I don't think that progessive had American Lifan as an option, but they did have Lifan so that is what it is called for insurance purposes. The insurance company may need to call it a Lifan or similar with the VIN# to insure, just because Viva is not a listed option on there computer. Allen

China bike was 600$ with theft, $500 without and that's first year/ not bad. I have no tickets, perfect 6 yr. car driving record. The problem is the age of my bike. Joining the Canadian vintage motorcycle group will help a bit too. The Only group to insure a 36 year old bike is Dalton Timmis. I expect it to be around 600$. Though I only have my M2, not my M licence. Year after next I should expect to pay, $500 with M licence. I had already payed State Farm for the whole year's worth of insurance for the china bike. When I sold the 150cc, I transfered my policy to the cb350. It only cost $81 dollars more because their policy is rated for summer usage. The $900 price tag only kicks in on May 7th and thats IF I can't find a cheaper carrier before then. I intend to find cheaper, 6->$650.00.
Frosty, I didn't think it would be this hard to find a broker for an old bike. One guy I called "advertised" he insured vintage bikes, when I said 36 years old, he laughed when he said "no way". It's not even a vintage bike, it's called post classic(I think?). |
