CDI is OFF/ON/OFF/ON???
Okay. With the cdi my starter was occasionally making a weird sound like it was partially engaging. Also, the bike does not want to idle below about 2000 rpm and occasionally just stalls at a light.
so i took the new cdi off and put the old one back on. now no more starter sound and bike running perfectly again minus the added power. i would say the box would be great if you intended to race someone or had to make it to the hospital in time for your son to be delivered, but for everyday driving its a no no on my bike. messes with the starting...i assume cause of timing. maybe a stage two would have been better for me. so i wasted 60.00... until I want to race someone then I have my ace in the hole. |

I was waiting for this. Those boxes must jump the timing so much it was bumping your starter. Guys, there's no "magic box" that's gonna gain you a lot of power without sacrifice somewhere. If that CDI was advancing the timing that much, you can bet it would detonate without race fuel and your piston would have melted down eventually. My advice, keep the stock box, and save your $60.00 for gas. You'll sure need it at $4.00+ a gallon.

Or with the mod, You would have a Kickstart only bike...Could be worse.

I wonder If we'll see a 280-300cc bolt on kit for the 200cc engines or if they could even handle that.(I doubt it)
And I wonder if the 250cc top end parts would bolt on....ahh but then that would probably cost almost as much as a whole new engine. It would have been nice to just have porterz blow his up for all of us and tell us about it to save us the hassle................. ![]() |

Your CDI ignition box is connected to the starter relay circuit? How does that work?

Is is not "connected". What is happening is that the spark advance is so far ahead that when you go to fire the engine the initial ignition stroke it fires before TDC and is forcing the starter to work harder.
You are getting some ignition of the fuel/air mixture before the piston reaches the top of the stroke and it is almost forcing the piston to fire in reverse. The flywheel keeps it moving forward past TDC to complete to revolution. The rest of to combustion takes place forces the piston done. Somthin like that. Yeah. If the box worked properly the advance at idle/start would be less or stock. Allen

Ok this shows how much I really don't know. :?
Does that mean that the cdi firing curve is too liniar? At Idle the advancement should be at TDC. But the firing point should come sooner and sooner as rev's increase, shouldn't it? I would think that a good "Magic Box" wouldn't affect the timing of your firing at idle. Does a magic box exist that only affects the higher revs, and leaves the lower rev's firing position closer to stock? See, told ya I knew next to nothing. My bike comes with a spark advancer, but its not computerized. N2r |

I think the "magic box" is somewhat linear. A good one should start with just alittle bit like 8 degree then go to full advance at high rpms
