fuel stabilizer

I''m unable to find a fuel stabilizer here in Ecuador, my moto will be sitting a few months so I stopped by the Bajaj dealer today and asked the mechanic what to do. He told me that they don't use it here and suggested that I use WD-40. He says I would have to use a whole can of WD-40, slosh it around in the tank and run it through the carburetor, according to him, there will be no varnish buildup. Well, I'm not sure if I believe this or not, what do you guys think?
