Taking that turn from tar to sand

Yesterday I took a turn off the road to check out a trail.

I took the turn at a modest speed in 2nd gear and nearly dumped the bike.

The trail looked like nice hard pack dirt like most of the trails around here but as I hit it, mid turn, I found out it was deep, baby powder like beach sand. 8in to a foot deep.

Wow!!! 2 wheels in that texture stuff is tricky!! Bike went right out from under me. Had to put a foot down for the first time in my life.

To be fair, most of my off road riding was on 3 wheels, so I never had to deal with a 2 wheeler sliding out from under me in deep beach sand type stuff. So never had to put a foot down.

So... moral of the story is... watch out for this. It looked like hard pack but wasn’t.
