New Hawk
Hi all,
Wanted to write a thread on our new Hawk. The kids and I are in the middle of a small buying spree. We plan on starting home school for the kids and my wife thought we should have more for them to do at home, so who am I to argue. One we ordered is a new hawk. As many of you know, I had a Hawk a while back (early 2016), and really liked it, but traded it to a friend for some AC work a couple years ago. I just wanted to comment on a some things that appear better to me now and small comparison to my brozz. 1. Shocks boots seems to be of better quality (old bikes never stayed in place and we're hard) 2. Wire loom (behind headlight) is a lot cleaner and better wrapped than my previous. My old bike may have been a fluke. 3. Of course gas cap is far better now. 4. No smog pump! 5. Black wheels are nice 6. Plastics seem to fit better and line up easier than my previous. (Could just be I'm more familiar) 7. A little less assembly than before (thank you kickstand spring), and better assembly from the factory overall. 8. Nice exhaust clamp. In comparison to my brozz: 1. I definitely prefer the Hawks colored plastics vs my brozz painted. 2. Hawk feels smaller, though it's not really, sit further forward, and higher (not a bad thing just different). 3. Suspension on hawk is definitely harder, at least new. 4. Hawk as said before definitely better for more off-road mix, Brozz on-road in stock forms. He doesn't know yet, but this is going to be my oldest son's. I have an Apollo dirt bike and two tao tao ATVs coming as well. I'm pretty set on ordering one of the Brozz Recons as a 2nd bike for me. Also, I did order one of the Brozz swingarms for it, a vm26, and chain to start the mods. We love them both. If anyone has questions on comparing the two, let me know. |

Our Hawk had it's first "issue" today.
Something I should have checked, but didn't. I noticed on two occasions, one when I was riding, another when my son was, where the hawk didn't cut off when the ignition was turned off. Obviously I thought that was weird. Well, shortly after it simply died, no spark (confirmed via the redneck test of holding the plug while turning it over). Walked it back to the garage, suspected cdi because of the prior. Sure enough, the two plug connection was loose, just sitting barely in there under the seat. Plugged it in fully, fired right up. Easy "fix", but sure had my son stressed out. Longest part was remove my panels and seat. Also it's now plated, and has 25 miles on it. And we just changed the oil again. |

It's a good idea to check all the connectors and make sure the pins are firmly locked into the plastic connectors. I had a couple that weren't.

I do not own a brozz... however from the looks of your pics alone, it looks like it has a superior swing arm (not sure if that is cosmetically or functionally ... but it looks like a legit swing arm (compared to square metal tubing on the Hawk )

I think you have to check nearly everything... which makes you learn alot about your bike.
knowledge is power as they say....

I do like the stiffer front suspension of the hawk better, but it does seem to flex pretty easily. Have never noticed that with the Brozz. The Brozz front suspension is very soft comparatively, easy to bottom out. Granted I haven't changed fluid in either. |

Hawk 250 Kickstand and Battery
Got a new 2019 Hawk 250. Watched all the vids on assembly and I'm almost done. Have a couple of questions.
1.) I put the acid in the battery, charged it, and it seems to be bulging a bit. Also i was going to even up the to fill line on one cell and cap popped of with pressure. The terminals have already oxidized with a good deal of white gunk. Cleaned it off of course. I'm guessing this battery may be bad or I screwed it up somehow? Whats the best new battery that will be "plug and play" so to speak? Don't want to upgrade the electrical system at this point or change the terminal connectors. 2.) For some reason the kickstand seems to be too long or something. I first thought it was the rubber piece but thats not it. Is this a common problem or am I missing something? Any fixes? Sorry if this stuff is asked and answered already. Did a few searches and I must be missing it. Thanks for your help! |

2. It sounds like you need to slide the forks down in the triple trees.

Its funny I've seen in the videos where at one point they came with the forks not fully extended. The tops on mine are flush like in the video and it came that way. When I removed the axle from the packing bracket it popped a bit like it was under tension. Is there anything that I need to do to the rear shock? I'm kind of stumped as to why it isn't working. I really appreciate you replying to me so fast. Im really ready to get this baby finished and ride! haha.
