Brozz 250: Poking the Cat
Hi All,
I considered replacing the stock exhaust with the aftermarket option but am shying away for 2 reasons, fitment around airbox and possibly too loud For those who have modified the stock exhaust, is it possible to get thru the cat to poke a hole and allow more airflox without cutting and welding? I removed a cat from my previous bike - Honda Fury 1300 - and was able to accomplish it using a 12" or so drill bit extension.. could that work for our bikes? I wouldnt necessarily need to remove all of the cat, maybe just make a 1/2" or 1" hole thru it. Also, did removing the entire cat make it as loud as the aftermarket, which ive read can be too loud or was it just right? Thanks |

If the Cat is located in the same place as on the Hawk you will have a hard time drilling it with the curves in the pipe.

Gotcha.. i may try to insert a thin pipe down the exhaust and see where it is and whether or not i can get at it with the extended drill bit or if i can figure on some kind of spear with a hammer maybe

It's located in the bulge right behind the heat shield on your header pipe.

Ah. scratch that idea then..
Let me ask you this, is there a center baffle somewhere near the rear can area as well or just the cat near the header section? I read this from a previous old post: from Sochin - not sure if this also applies to the Brozz or not and when he references center baffle, i wonder if he is referring to punching holes in the exhaust endcap, if so ive poked 8 holes in mine I still ride with the stock Hawk exhaust/cat :O I did port the header pipe to match the CRC head I got on. And I punched out 12-14 holes in the center baffle, it retains my torque for mountains and I can still go 65-68 on flat ground with 17/50 sprockets. It still remains a very quiet bike, and I will keep it that way to make it easy to sneak up on wildlife :P. __________________ 2017 Hawk 250- Mjstef Instrument cluster, Mikuni VM26(105/25 jets@3300feet), Uni air filter, RK428MXZ chain, JT17/50, 15w fork oil, Rotella 15W40 oil, NGK-DPR8EIX sparkplug, TT250 head, ported stock exhaust.
