2018 RX3 reserve water bottle
Can some one with a new 2018 RX3 post a pic of the coolant over flow water bottle please? They are suppose to have a extension on the filler of it that gets the fill cap up where you can get to it easily. One of my few pet peeves for my 2015 RX3 is that its hidden out of sight and a pain to fill. I'm wondering if old ones can be modified easily or just replaced with new ones from 2018? thanks rj

RJ, what I did on my 2016 to top off the reserve bottle was to open the main radiator cap and using a large syringe with a tube connected to it I connected it to the hole that has the tube that leads to the reserve container and filled it that way. Just a thought rather than attempting to modify the bike.
Hope all is well! Joe

Trying to downsize all the "things" I carry on my RX3. A funnel with hose extension or syringe works great but take up room so trying to get away from that, rj

Here is the view of the newer version water bottle - easier to fill
Here is a view from the top on the bike Here is the view underneath I am trying to get them - USD$15 plus postage is about what I assume it will be (Postage to the USA $17.50 I believe, or bulk sent to the USA and cheaper per bottle) Details to come |

Thanks NZ, you the man.
Next question is compared to older one is the filler opening just bigger? And hose ran into bottom of bottle? My problem is the fill cap hole needs to be up near the top of tank plastic fairing to get the cap off easier. I was hoping they would have an extended neck that brought the fill cap up where you can access it more easily instead of hiding the whole thing down where its hard to get too. rj.

The RX3S has a totally different setup and the bottle is mounted up in the fairing etc and the radiator is totally different etc so short on changing maybe everything I don't see that really working. I will try and get 1 bole and fit to my own bike and see if it is a bit more possible to top up over the old stock unit. |

I like the rubber cap part of it . At least that would come off easier then threaded one. rj

The overflow bottle on the RX3 is apparently not pressurized when the engine is warm. I cut the hose, inserted a plastic "T", put a bit of hose on the open tab, stuck a bolt in it. I drilled a hole in the coolant lid, glued in a plastic fitting to take the same size hose, stuck a plastic fitting in the other end, then a vacuum cap. Sits well in the custom fluids box between the left side pannier bracket and chain guard, but my bracket is widened to match the right side offset for the muffler.
Anywho, to top overflow, pull the bolt out of the tube behind the plastic, pull the cap off the fitting on the coolant bottle, plug overflow to coolant bottle, squeeze. Takes about 5 seconds. |
