Hello guys. Long time no see.
Several questions here. I checked the front wheel, and it showed 2.5 STD RIM. Is it my wheel only, or Spud and everybody else have a different 2.15 wheel? Second question. If I were to put 1.85x19 rim at the front, how will it affect handling? It's hard to find 19 inch rim with 2.50 width here. The widest available for 19 inch is 1.85. I'm planning to put both Mitas E07 on front and rear. I have no problem of converting the rear to 17 inch (stock came with 15 inch here in this part of the world). It's just the front that left me scratching my head, because the narrowest Mitas E07 have is only 100/90x19 for the front, and I believe it won't fit 1.85x19 width rim (or can it fit?). Thanks guys.

I believe the 2.5 refers to width of the tyre and by virtue of converting inches to milimeters, 2.5 and 100 is the same width. My bad. And I checked the tyre manufacturer fitment chart. Yep, the 100/90-R19 can fit to a 1.85x19 rim. Thank you SpudRider! Oh...Happy Independence Day Uncle Sam!

Well thanks to the many post in this thread and the others I was able to replace my OEM, CST tires with the best I could get here in Iloilo City, Panay, Philippines; not exactly what I wanted but the best I could do here.
Since the OEM, CST brand tires suck (IMHO) and my selection of tires here in Iloilo City is limited and after much shopping around and calculating I settled on a Fuji Tire, Wing 2000, Trail Sports, 3.50 - 18 and a Samsun (they seem to be related to Dunlap somehow), what they call a Dual Sport (no model name or number) Series in 140/80 - 17 but has a pattern like the Shinko 705 for the rear. They are both larger in diameter than OEM and I was concerned more about the rear due to lifting the bike and making the already bad seat angle worse. It turned out to not be as bad as I'd thought in height; it is higher by about 3/4" and I'm only 5'6"". The traction was much better right off and they are not broken in yet, only 40 Km today in the rain but got on a good stretch of mud and gravel, felt much better than OEM. I forgot to measure the ground clearance before the fit and after (the best I could do with my helper) looks like 7 3/4" at the center stand bracket and 9 1/2" at the skid plate, that will do for my riding. I might need to get a pair of slightly longer legs... Riceburner |

The Shinko 244 is a good rear tire, and it is less expensive than the Kenda K270. After wearing out the Kenda, K270 front tire, I installed a Shinko, 244 front tire in size 3.00-18.

I think the two tires are very similar. Therefore, I prefer the lower price of the Shinko 244. My Kenda, K270 front tire lasted almost 13,000 miles before I replaced it, but it had a lot of uneven wear at the end. Therefore, I decided to experiment with the Shinko front tire this time.
