Quick basic question...I'm going to pull the decals off my bike as I think it'll look better just black...those white fork guards though...bleh. Anyone have a link for what will fit before I take a gamble on Amazon? Thanks for your help in advance.

If it were me I'd just paint them black (or whatever) with Rustoleum spray paint. Though it isn't the most durable stuff and scratches will show white at the end of the season it's easy to strip and repaint. Using Easy Off Heavy Duty Oven Cleaner. I used to do this to the plastics of the kids' ATV. One year white, next camo, next yellow. Washed off thoroughly the oven cleaner doesn't harm anything else so you wouldn't even have to remove the guards.
But yes, if you can find black ones it would save that fiddling.

Thanks I'd thought of using high temp paint like for BBQs. I have some at home but I guess would rather just throw $15-$20 at the problem and never have to repaint. I'm impatient though so I might just paint them.

I'd expect whatever you painted with to be scratched and let white show through the first time you go through some brush. Cheap, easily touched up and/or removed entirely are why I like Rustoleum. It's hard to find in black but Rustoleum makes "epoxy" spray paint. Supposed to be for appliances but I've been using it for stuff like frames for years. It's not really epoxy but I have found it to be a bit more durable than the standard stuff. White and almond are the more common colors. Home Depot and the like carry it. Only in gloss though.

Okay, what do you all recommend for break in? I want to say the manual wants 500 miles at under 35mph...uhhh, no. That seems a crazy long interval to me.

Ride it normally, just gentle. Several short heat cycles and your most of the way there. Change the oil frequently.

I didn't find my answer with a search so thought I'd post it here. I want to be compliant with the USFS. Other than the $89 Fisch one on Amazon, anyone have a more economical recommendation for the Templar X? Thanks in advance.

Yes, if you want to add a spark arrestor to your existing muffler.

Took it out to the woods my father in law owns and put 50 miles into it. Mixed on road and off road. It Ran great. Brought me back to my childhood riding dirtbike with my father.

Had no issues being 5'6" and riding the Templar either. My KLX 140 as a kid I always thought had enough power, but not enough suspension. Being so tall on the Templar X felt amazing. If Florida doesn't get rained out this weekend I'll be taking it to a more serious offroading area to really test the bike.

Went to the DMV yesterday. I was planning on just the title for now and plates later ( Florida off-road areas need at least a title number). Before I knew what was happening the lady came with a plate and all! I don't even have insurance on it yet nor have I taken my motorcycle endorsement class. In Florida it's required to have both. It's their mistake and I won't push my luck past that. No serious on road until I get both insurance and moto class sorted. I don't feel confident enough to take it on roads with actual traffic yet.

I was thinking of buying another set of rims to put more street orientated tires on so I can swap between off-road and on road easily. Having to swap tires on 1 set of rims all the time sucks. I remember having to change tubes often as a kid... Not a fun process!

The stock knobbies seemed to work pretty well for the 50 miles of back roads I did the other day but I'm sure they will wear out FAST on asphalt and corners are definitely a little sketchy. As a beginner rider on the streets I want as much advantage as I can get.

Adding just the screen can still get you in trouble if you wind up getting stopped and inspected in the woods since the stock system doesn't have the appropriate USFS approval markings. Around here there have been a few people who have had their bikes impounded for not having an approved spark arrestor

Yep...that's why I'm looking at the $89 FischMoto one but am happy to find a less expensive alternative.
