As I suspected, the lower fork guards mount to the front fender. Therefore, one can easily add extensions to the fender mounts to raise the fender, and accommodate a 21-inch front wheel. It appears all you need to do is add four short pieces of 1/8" X 3/4" aluminum bar to the four supports at the bottom of the fender.

The lower fork guards attach to the fender, so they will move upward with the fender. I'm sure lacing a 21-inch rim to the front wheel will not cause any clearance problems.

You are probably right ,the tabs on the lock washer should survive a few uses.
I could really do with the torque setting for the bolt before i start jumping up and down on a spanner inside a scafold pole.
I really dont want to screw any thing up at the moment ,ive got to ride it to work in the morning

Regarding the plastics --
the Black plastic seems to be all the same , quite flexible .As you have said the orange plastic is different and painted ,though the outer seems to have a Clear Lacquer on top.
The inside of the fork protector i have scrached with a screwdriver to reveal the black plastic underneath ( see arrow in picture )

I believe that fork protector to be polypropylene. You can see the PP near the recycle symbol.

Here is the way I check for the proper chain slack. I hold the lower chain up against the swingarm at the place indicated in the diagram, just behind the chain slider. If I can't get the chain to contact the swingarm, the chain is too tight. If the chain on top of the swingarm is not taut, the chain is too loose. If the chain contacts the bottom of the swingarm and the chain above the swingarm is taut, the tension is correct.

I hope you are correct. Polypropylene is very flexible. If any of the covers are brittle, and not flexible, they are undoubtedly manufactured from ABS.

Wraps would be MUCH more expensive than $4.00 for new covers for sure.
It would cost at least 100+ (and doubtfull anyone would want to fool with it around here, even at that)! SO thats a better solution, IMHO.
Ordering direct from Taobao for individual parts, however, is a hassle, especially if customs decides to get involved (for individuals orders).
You have mad SKIILS, my friend, if you can "Krylon those covers to match the bikes original colors and finish texture. In ALabama, people Krylon can EVERYTHING, and its NOT PRETTY!! I assure you hehe! Runs, pits, orange peel, "fisheye's, EVERY flaw know to man, are there in plain view...I'd be sick, or at least disapointed, to see that level of quality around here, on other ZOngs, anyway...

If the pricing from CSC is reasonable, I'd just get them from there. If pricing isn't appropriate, someone else will offer them at reasonable pricing soon enough, as long as the bikes remain available and main/replacement/large parts are properly supported by CSC.

If not, maybe someone on here can repaint them. Woldn't real paint (Krylon or similar) NOT fade so fast, regardless of what its on? Maybe do a few layers /coats to help if its a bleed through issue? AFter you paint them, do the still only last a year?

Many people on this website have ordered parts from Taobao, without any problems. I have placed three orders myself, and everything has always gone smoothly.

I think my spray paint jobs have turned out pretty well.



Maybe we paint better in Idaho than in Alabama?

If one decides to paint the ABS plastic covers, he doesn't need to get a perfect color match. The only other part of the bike which isn't black is the fuel tank. If one is very worried, he can always get a local paint shop to match the tank color, or he can paint the other parts either white, or black. Perhaps Zongshen will start manufacturing the ABS covers in polypropylene, with the color molded into the part.

I've used Krylon Fusion several times with terrific results. I appreciate that the blue and red match Yamaha and Honda so well.

I have been on the edge of may seat, daily.... This will be my first motorcycle and I will be new to riding. I can't wait to get on my bike! It's great to have so many experienced riders excited about this bike. Also, the insight on this forum adds another level of assurance that my experience will be a good one.

Hopefully the CARB cert comes through, so I can actually buy/register the thing when it arrives (assuming I can't otherwise?). No need to wait for good weather here, it's always nice

24mm bolt , marking bolt position and counting turns when loosening it took about 40 lb/ft to return the bolt to the exact spot.
