2001 F150 5.4 swap over per request 😉

I'm not familiar with that part. It doesn't look like it would be a sway bar mount, nor does it look like a mount for a steering part. What is it?

Yep! That's what it's supposed to be, but it's degraded somewhat... metal was sitting on metal. Not to mention the output shaft angle. I'm sure I'll see and feel a difference.

Well, cured that issue, and then drove to town; it was 104 degrees. Truck started running really rough. Thinking weak fuel pump or something. So, left it at a friends house. Ugh. Oh well, getting the bugs worked out!

It would likely never have occurred to me that a trans mount could cause a shimmy. I was totally focused on steering parts in my head.

The rubber insulator breaks down and the transmission sags until the metal top of the mount is resting on the bottom. Then all the transmissions vibrations are transferred into crossmember and frame, etc.

Now, I may also have a slightly out of balance or bent driveshaft too. Was watching it while truck was running, on jackstands. Doesn't seem all that smooth. U-joints are fine.

Changed fuel filter, let it sit overnight, and drove home with no issues. However, I have ordered a fuel pump... pretty sure it's the issue. Low pressure that is allowing vaporization of the gas in the line in this heatwave.

Got a pump and strainer ordered from Advance/Carquest. 75$ And free shipping with a coupon code. I think I'll drive it locally until the gas gets lower, then I'll drop the tank and change that pump. Will make me feel much better! The pump has a fairly high pitched whine when key is turned to run position (doesn't sound normal). Might be an indication of starting to fail?

Might be, but my guess is that it is already an aftermarket pump. Every one I've installed in the past has been noisier than the stocker.

Went to wrecking yard today and got a handful of goodies. Right front door rubber bumpers (when door closes it stops on those) brackets and screws and gaskets to make it less noisy and make it seal better. Installed it all, and got the interior door handle to actually feel solid. This poor truck! Evidently that side had also been hit, and the door replaced and painted, but they didn't put it back together correctly. Also got the rear window trim moulding (goes around the plastic part) and installed that too. And, finally, got the rear seat area fold down cup holders, since mine were broken. 15$ Total. I love a good junk yard! I still want the plastic cover that goes over the starter solenoid but haven't located the right one yet.

Then I crawled under my house and sealed several places that a cat had come in. That was a job I pretty much hate.

Regular cat, but neighbor said that a skunk WAS hanging around in their culvert so I was super careful to get things sealed up...

As far as the truck goes, yes, you're right. I plan on keeping it for a long while, so want to make sure it's done right, and is reliable. Sure beats dropping 26-60k on a newer or new one! And, I really enjoy the process of making it as good as it can be.

I hate redneckifying things... my older son does that and it drives me crazy. Lol! Thought I'd taught him better. But, everything he touches gets the magic duct tape, zip tie and bailing wire treatment. SMH. Younger son (25) does much better; loves preserving and keeping things in good shape.

Having said that, judicious use of all 3 is fine, especially in a pinch. But if a better way is readily available then I use it.

Today I repaired the front seat center console setup. Got the vinyl tucked back in, cleaned it, and repaired the broken parts. Looks good!

I don't have a before, really, but just imagine all the vinyl popping loose and also being really dirty.
