What were the symptoms of the tank leak, aside from coolant on the ground? Did it struggled to produce cabin heat because it was losing pressure?

Perhaps you'd consider a front receiver to carry the TTR.

Coolant was slowly disappearing. I was worried it was head gasket etc. it would lose maybe 1/2 an inch of coolant on a long drive, or over the course of a trip? But, since the coolant was hot, it was evaporating as it came out the cracks of the tank. Figured out it was just along the seam between the top and bottom because this last weekend, I was checking the coolant as I normally do, I noticed the tiny cracks and evidence of moisture.

Never any other signs other than that.

I have a (hopefully cunning) plan to buy a Boxster. Will update if it comes to fruition. Have someone interested in the TDI Golf, and a pocket full o change from the motorcycles being sold. Wife has given quiet approval.

Trucks radiator blew. Cracked in the plastic right below the top hose. Lost 3 gallons of coolant. Got a new one from NAPA with dual cores. Original was single. Must be the age of all the plastic. Really glad I have the aluminum manifold on this thing...

Golf sold and am now in the market for a cheaper and older Boxster.

Truck is dead, for now. Got it all back together, new radiator etc. drove it approx 35 miles. Ran great. Oil pressure and water temp great. Pulled into sisters house. Turned it off. Went to restart... heard a crazy awful noise and now it cranks, keeps making the metallic noises, and won’t start. I’m leaning toward the timing chain setup has gone bad (Not a knock, and it would have started). So, debating whether to fix, or sell as is... tempted to pull front covers off engine but what a giant process on those 5.4 engines... so that’s it for now!

At least it didn't come apart at full song. Perhaps it won't be catastrophic.
Might be faster and easier to just procure another 5.4

Ok, F150 5.4 update.

Perfect storm of 3-4 things happening in 24 hours. First, radiator cracks and engine overheats. Many times when this happens, the engine is ruined. So, my brain was in that mode. Second, after I put a new dual core Napa radiator in it, I drove 30 miles, turn it off and and then it won’t restart. Would crank but starter was stuck (I think) and wouldn’t release (causing the horrible noise that sounded like chains). And then finally, got it running today (starter probably cooled and unstuck itself). Ran for 5 minutes and quit. Fuel pump relay had also gone bad. Tapped on it with a wrench, and ran again, for a minute and then died. Swapped the trailer connector relay with it, and runs like a top. All of these things caused a sort of “red herring” of oh no, major problems.

Anyway, drove it home! Never turned it off tho, lol!

Got home, and when it cooled this eve, pulled the starter. Flex plate and teeth look good. Starter does not. Has damaged teeth and the Bendix won’t pop back in. Or, it will literally stay in any position I put it. Got it and a fuel pump relay waiting for me at Advance Auto tomorrow...

Man, am I glad it wasn’t the engine. Sometimes things like this remind me that God watches over all of us idiots... literally, I tow a trailer down the highway and it overheats and I turn it off as the trailer sets in its spot. Then, once the new radiator is in, I go back to my sisters, and, literally, have the trailer in it’s spot, turn off the truck to unhook the wiring and it won’t restart. Coincidence? 3 things potentially going wrong and I’m not broke down on the highway? Providence I’m thinking...

Oh one more thing, I discovered a reputable engine remanufacturing company in Portland that is literally half the price of others, and has a 7/70 warranty. So, 1695$ for my engine vs. the 3300$ everyone else wanted. Just an FYI if anyone ever needs an engine. And, they do all their work in house, and have been in business 30 years. EPM Machine.

Although a pain in the butt, I’m happy when things work out this way. The brain and the wallet both breath a sigh of relief.

Providence, indeed! My consistent prayer is, "Lord, thanks for protecting me from myself."
That's an awesome deal on an engine! Thanks for sharing that with us.

Truck is doing well. And, I sold my VW, a few motorcycles and bought a 2002 Porsche Boxster S, 3.2 engine, manual 6 speed, 71,000 miles! Has some small issues but drove it 300 miles home on Friday.

Boxster update: cleaned, vacuumed, changed oil, inspected, reattached loose front plastics. Needs: alignment, tire balance, brake pads and 2 CV axles in the back since the boots are broke open. Have all parts ordered. Pretty cheaply too! And, power steering is whining but I haven’t opened engine bay yet to check levels. Will do so when air filter comes in. Tagged and registered.

Also, spoiler won’t go up and ordered a key fob repair kit. Did a Sprint Booster (aftermarket throttle sensitivity device) delete, and will also do brake wear warning delete as I hear it’s a pain and causes the light to go on too much.

Did: brakes, brake wear light delete, 2 cv axles, air cleaner, added power steering fluid, cleaned engine Bay, spoiler delete (wasn’t coming up right, so just made it stay down without any warning lights), stereo rear speakers, and probably a few things I forgot...

Waiting on tires to be shipped.

Let’s see, I teach and school started this week, so motorcycle’s and cars are to the side bar of importance right now. But, last week, the Boxster got new tires, and an alignment. Made all the difference. Super smooth at all speeds and mucho fun to drive! Took wife out to coast. She decided she loves convertibles.

Truck threw a code, cylinder 6 misfire. I replaced the coil pack and seems to be ok. Had several laying about in a drawer so that’s handy.

Might get to go riding this weekend. Friend in Bandon has a ride planned. Haven’t decided to take the KLX250 or ride his DR350. Any way you slice it tho, should be fun!
