It requires a 24mm wrench and/or socket to remove. When you go to reinstall it, be careful not to cross thread it, and don't go crazy with the torque when tightening it down or it will crack and split apart. It seals with an O-ring, so good and snug should do ya just fine.

As far as the proper oil amount, if you put in 1.3 quarts, or 1 quart, or whatever, as long as the oil level is roughly centered in the window after sitting 5 minutes from shut down, don't stress about the actual numbered amount you put in.
