I encourage you dismantle the starter button, and see if the contacts are tarnished. I replaced my starter button with an inexpensive switch from Radio Shack, and it works much better now.

If, indeed, you need a new battery, I highly recommend the MotoCross/Yuasu, YTZ7S battery.

Thanks for the tip Spud...I actually read your starter button fix. Now that you mention it, the problem does present more like a faulty intermittant switch...slap forehead.

Don't feel bad, WCR. With almost 42,000 miles on my Zong's odometer, I have encountered most problems any Zong owner is likely to face. Nevertheless, it took me a little while to disassemble, examine, and discover the problems with the stock start button.

Mom's gone Home.

That was about 6 years ago. I was in NJ for the funeral, and have not been back since. If I am ever out there again I'd love to ride in the Pine Barrens or wherever you go. I used to peddle my mountain bike out there, and the sugar sand as you put it will indeed put you on your face fast!

I get hives nowadays if I travel east of the Rocky Mountains. The exception in the Florida Keys in wintertime.

My cousin lives in Brick. I also have many relatives in the Cape May Court House area and Rio Grande, a bit further south. We used to ride the old quarries near Belleplain State Forest on dirt bikes.

The Zong changed out to basic black...plus a secret cosmetic touch up?? With a tank of fresh fuel with a few ounces of chemtool gas teatment, fresh oil, and a repeated 10-20 minute daily flogging, the bike is running pretty well. The Zongaha engine loves to wind up and doesnt seem to mind high revs. Adjusted and oiled the chain, you could actually feel a lumpiness when slow speed coasting with the dry chain.

Your Zong looks great in basic black, WCR! Where are the mirrors and the plastic skid plate?

Indeed, the Zong/TW200 engine loves to rev. I think the engine's redline is around 10,000 rpms. That's why I always tell people to drop one or two teeth on the countershaft sprocket. The Zong is geared seriously high from the factory with 15T/46T sprockets.

Let's see more photos of your Zong in its native habitat!

I can attest to the Zong's ability to rev. It hauled me up some steep inclines in Idaho, at up to 9,000 feet. The secret?

Second gear pinned. :P

Sometimes First.

You have to abandon a bit of what I call mechanical sympathy, but the bike loves it.

This engine was made to rev; it doesn't make much power until it revs a bit. Gear down the sprocket ratio so you can get into the powerband.

Your mechanic is a slacker! Are you going to replace the speedometer cable? With persistence, and patience, you can certainly get this part from Zongshen America. However, I think I might have an alternative source for this part. I haven't verified the fit, but I believe the speedometer cable for the Kawasaki, BN125 Eliminator will also work for your Zong. The Kawasaki speedometer cable is part #54001-1244 in the following link.
