Looks like an "anti- reversion chamber" to keep consumed/exhausted gases from re entering the combustion chamber. it has a cone shapped pc inside and directs any unwanted backflow of dead gases to the sides, within the pipe chamber instead of flowing directly back thru the center of the pipe and back into the cylinder during cycles of low pressure. http://wiki.clubcivicquebec.com/imag...on_chamber.jpg

Thank you for that link. An "anti-reversion chamber" would be of advantage on an engine tuned for mid-range power and torque. Like on a Hawk. But if you are tuning for maximum power at the upper part of the range, and had an exhaust cam to utilise reversion (to ram raw air-fuel mixture back in the head) then that style of anti-reversion chamber would not be helpful. Perhaps even harmful.
