I used to drill stainless steel shafting at the boatyard I worked in. I had been taught to use evaporated milk for a lubricant. Apparently the casien in the milk is what kept the drill from burning. I was drilling a vertical rudder shaft, so had to pull the drill out every 30 seconds or so, and dip it in the evaporated milk.
