Just my 2 cents, and personal experience, but I would tear that motor down fully. You definitely had some big chunks end up in bad places. Best to inspect everythinge

I got stuck at centrifugal oil filter again. Last time I split engine I stripped the screw and had to extract it and get an air impact screwdriver for the other screws. Now I was able to get one out but the other two are being stubborn so tomorrow I’m gonna go get a hammer impact screwdriver to get the other screws out or I’m gonna have to use extractor. That oil filter is a pain in the ass!!
So couldn’t split the engine but got a ton on crap out of it. Hopefully everything looks ok besides needing a new cylinder head? And new piston setup, does anyone know of an upgrade that’s tested and works I can get? Or do I got to go through txpowersports or RPS? So tempted to just throw in a new enginefrom txpowersports for $500 cause I’m scared of more problems down the road. Ahhh! On top of all this I was driving my wife’s scooter to work a lancer 150cc and that broke down on me. Sounds like starter was whirling but not clicking but it did sometimes after I tried kicking it over a couple times then would whirl again. Took spark plug off and felt for compression and it only pushed my finger like one time and would stop and start whirling again until I kicked it over then again little compression and then stop. Did some research and I need to check my valves someone said might be stuck open. So now I got a gy6 I need to learn about now. Don’t remind me please, no luck |

Might be my lack of mechanical experience overall... But I'd personally just buy the new engine. Some things aren't right from factory and never will be. There's 2 hawks in my family. Mine has been riddled with issues. My father's has yet to have a single one. The bikes got ordered at the exact same time from the exact same distributor.

That motor has to come apart...
look at the bottom of the piston... that con rod took a hell of a pounding...how will you ever know if the little end and big end are still true with each other... ..

Good thing is when it died it just shut off no grinding or weird noises. Bad things I tried to crank it a couple times I should no better. After I reassembled from the last time after a couple days running it started making a noise like the tappets so I adjusted them and they were good should have known to open engine and check, to lazy I guess. Serves me right that’s twice for me bike was acting funny and I just ignored it and it turned into a problem.

Chances are the connecting rod is bent, and if it took that kind of impact then the crankshaft center pin (where the bit end rides) is probably out of alignment with the counter weights and no longer true. I like a challenge, but I also have the ability and patience to tackle that kind of engine work. In your case, assuming you need an entire rotating assembly, cylinder, and head you might end up spending the same as just buying a whole new engine. The heads have gone up in price, and the best I have seen puts them at $100, usually more. Figure at least another $250-300 for the jug, a piston, a rod and crank, seals, bearings, gaskets, and assuming nothing else got damaged you still might end up spending almost the same as you would on that new motor anyway. Plus, there is the time factor. How much is your time worth to you?

I like to fix things. But if this engine was my engine I would get a new one. The price is right for the new one. Parts alone would be close to the cost of the new engine and their is the piece of mind involved. I would Keep the old one for parts. At least the trans and clutch are good for parts. The rest not so much.

Totally agree with everyone here, If you put a new top end on that its probably gonna run out of balance, shake more than normal and everything else will go south soon after and all that money and work will be a loss.
Take the $500 hit and get riding with a little peace of mind and less stress, now you have an extra clutch if you burn one up.

Lit Hawk, if you choose to start a GoFundMe page, perhaps a few of us could help take the sting out of a new motor for you.
