thank you all so much for the help and nzbrakelathes as soon as I have more funds I will be buying your toolset. Q9 is replacing the rocker cover gasket under warranty if the service department ever gets back to me. After emailing back and forth I was asked to call the service tech spoke with him he confirmed parts that are needed emailed service dept again informing them that I spoke with the tech and have not heard anything from them now. Hopefully, they get back to me soon would like to get back up and running sooner than later.

I like to use a breaker bar (or if you prefer, flex handle) to turn the motor over, since it's difficult with a ratchet. Like Jeffrey says, take the plug out.

ok, so I just checked. when the atv is in N when turning the flywheel counterclockwise I feel the piston moving in the upstroke as resistance starts but if I keep pressure and go slow I can feel and hear air escaping. is that normal? now you have me worried this motor was crap. I will record a video for you.

If anyone would be willing to try and turn your flywheel and tell me if it is easy with some resistance with the spark plug in using a ratchet

Yes, this is normal when turning a cold engine over by hand slowly. No piston and ring setup seals perfectly and gas/air can seep past the ring end gaps as you turn the engine. That slow hissing noise is what you are hearing when that happens. When your engine is running that piston travels up so fast that the air doesn't really have time to escape.

To put it into perspective on how quickly that piston moves, at a 1500rpm idle speed, that piston goes up and down 25 times a second. Comparatively, you are taking several seconds to do one compression stroke.

I set mine a little loose, In-.004 Ex-.005, but I know I'll be resetting them soon after initial break in and it has to be better than the zero lash from the factory.
