Did you remove the pilot jet it came with? Usually the markings are on the side of the jet and they are very tiny.

so after a quick ride after work, i pulled the carb off enough to turn the mix screw half a turn in(now it is one turn out from slightly seated). Fired her back up and went for a spin. seemed more responsive. This morning was about 25 degrees and she fired up no choke no problem. I'm definitely going in the right direction!
