okay, the case is apart and there were NO loose nuts or bolts floating around. i called my buddy and he told me to look at the main bearings and to see what color they were. they are a dark purple. so, sometime in the 798km this bike has been ridden, the main bearing lacked lubricant. im sorry about not having pics but my camera is dumb and i cant figure out how to get the pics on here. so, do i button it back up and ride the piss outta it then replace it with a XR 200 motor, or find a new bearing and rhen ride the piss outta it? im thinking ride the piss outta it and then change the motor. i love having a garage. at my old house, i would have done this on the kitchen table. (maybe THATS why she left me!?)

purple!?!?!?!?!?!
that is not natural. if you look around you can find a ohc lifan for probably half the price of the xr and it will bolt up directly. check out hooper imports for a lifan engine. and then try ebay. make sure to check the seller out really good. you dont need some hack taking your monies and not shipping.

Not much I can do, sorry to hear of the problems. I was gonna suggest video taping the opening of the case so you can retrace all your steps.

ya i wasn't worried about how things went back together. im always more worried about stripping nuts/bolts out. so, yeah the magneto-side crank bearing was purple. not barney purple. more, a BURNED chrome purple. i have the bike prepped to be put back together in the morning. im just going to ride it till it pops. i just hope it dont lock up on me going 55 down the road. who knows, now that its toast, i should 50/50 lucas and dino and see how far she goes!
you know, im not wealthy by any means. in fact im pretty poor. i got this bike cause i drive thirty miles t and from work everyday. i am a single baby's daddy with no help from the b***h mother. if i cant squeze another month or 2 outta this motor, i might just have to part it out... thats asking alot from a purple bearing but i dont have much of a choice. what i would give for a klr right now. this is real depressing. S**t,G*D damn, F**K!!!!!! okay, now that i have got that out, its time to start searching for a solution to this problem. thanks for your help guys. i will let you all know how the booger bike works out. and how long the purple bearing lasts. isnt it beer-thirty? yes, it is! |

There is a wholesaler near Lawrenceburg Indiana (Elrod In actually) This is where I bought my bike. Its a Roketa but it has the OHC non counter balanced engine. I have 4400 miles on mine so far, and its been great. I will be needing anew clutch soon, and I asked hime about parts.. the complete basket was $85, but he also told me he would sell me a complete new engine that came from a busted bike (shipping damage) for $150 engine will be minus the carb and starter.
He does not always have parts bikes around, but you could ask him. Price may vary since he knows me and I was a customer. Here is his number and web site. Phone: (812) 654-2827 http://www.fraleymotors.com/ And not to be a a jerk, but your engine failure had nothing to do with the Lucas and everything to do with you running without a filter... seems kinda strange that if something fell out while you were doing an oil change that you would not find out how to put it back in. I would do as you said, and just run the snot out of it... those end bearings are ball bearing type bearings.. so they will probably make LOTS and LOTS of noise before they actually fail. But I would be careful about getting into situations where the wheel locking might kill you... Like on the interstate. Good luck with your bike. Ken |

If ball type bearings are making noise and have purpled the race, then forget it. The amount of miles left on that motor are negligible and it just ain't safe. It's not a car....
Pulling engine parts outta your flesh is no fun, nor is a rear wheel lockup followed by chain wrapping around your leg.. duck

He might be able to take the bearing out and match it up at an industrial supply house. I've done that many times, usually you can get some really high quality bearings at less than half the price you'd pay anywhere else.
Most of the time the bearing will have an ID number on both races and can be cross referenced. If there's no number it's not hard to match ID, OD and width. Just don't get a sealed bearing as it will need oil flowing through it to carry the heat away. |
