I forgot, the Tank distributed Xi is supposed to be from Taiwan, not China, but we all know how 'true' that probably is

China is terrible about reliability or manufacturing ethic period.
For the price the jap bike would be worth it simply for the dealer network and parts availability that comes with it.
If there were a dedicated network of dealers and parts suppliers, technicians around then they could compete at the same price level.
I like my Chinese bike, but I wouldn't pay anywhere near that much for anything made in China simply because i've owned one of these bikes.
They are great bikes FOR THE PRICE...when the price is on par with jap bikes yet quality of product is unchanged then they cease to be a great bike and become a ripoff imo.
That's assuming the same chinese engineering i've seen in Lifan's etc..
I've got a coilover mount with a washer welded into it cause the barstock wasn't long enough.(from the factory...)
If I saw that on a bike at a dealership I would be calling DOT.
Regardless of dealer price or cost it has to be justified by quality when it goes out the door.
I've yet to see any chinese bike that comes close to that price in quality of equipment.

first china is the maker for the xi according to the rep. just since i must not have made it clear i have seen this bike, i have seen the quality improve greatly over the last few years but,,but i feel this bike is priced a little on the high side that was the point i was trying to make, and i think the cpi MAY, MAY that is be in this same price range, and yes the quality i seen it is as good as the jap. my money would be spent on something with a warranty as i cant afford to get it home and it be broke but all this is based on the bike i seen at the show both the tank and the cpi. the asia wing has my vote overall but i have yet to see or talk to anyone who can sell me one. like i said i think i would pass on the tank

Still waiting for the funds to get a Pitster motard, but the CPI is intriguing, although it doesn't seem like it's available, yet, in the US. Asiawing is soon, but I have a feeling that they are waiting for a fuel injection unit instead of a carb, hence the delay

If you scroll to towards the bottom of this page, you can see all four Xingyue's on Roketa's site. I think the bikes that say "new" near them are actually available through Roketa (dealers only :? )so all four are technically available, it seems. Teamcheap found one on the thread he started in the "misc." section for $2400, including shipping, which makes me second guess my Pitster aspirations, but we'll see...

$3500 for a 350 is not bad. That's basically $1000 less than the Kawi 250's and $2k under the '09 KLR650 ($5599)

My problem is that it's a Tank. I've not seen much of anything positive about their products or support. Don't we have a member here who struggled for months to get parts for his bike?

Not to imply that's exclusive to Tank, as we all know other's have had trouble with AL, for example. But then, how many of us are now willing to plunk down $3500 for a new AL? I don't think I would.

I'd rather buy this old rag and save $1000 - http://atlanta.craigslist.org/mcy/1099856159.html

There was a China-based member of mychinamoto.com who went to the Asiawing factory and rode the dirt bike and the Spark 500. Asiawing seems to be on the up and up--more of an "enthusiast" company versus a company that just happens to be in the motorcycle factory business.

I think he mentioned that they were waiting for a fuel injection system for both their Spark 500 and their dirt bike as they don't want to bring their bikes to Europe and N. America with carbs--hence the delay.

There are a few videos on youtube if you put in Asiawing on the search. Here are the threads from mychinamoto:

Very encouraging review of the CPI 250 motard

I've been satisfied with my China bike, so far.
I would like to go up to a 350 or 400 size bike.
I wouldn't plunk down over 3K for a new one, though.
I found this while Googling....
Cpi Motorcycle Review
Still a 250, but it does look to be a better quality than previously available.
Now if the prices are what I consider "reasonable"..
Nice reading what someone found while actually riding one

Phil,
Let us know when you get one of these in.........
Bill

I hate to pick on that one line there, but...

New releases in August? 8O
Does it not register anywhere that August is in the middle of riding season?
Why not introduce new models in Dec or Jan so people can plan to purchase one for the entire riding 'season'?

Most people who plan to ride already have a bike by June or July. Sure, some don't...and some people will buy at any time all year round, but August is obviously past the peak interest period, IMO.

It's a small point, but it seems silly to me. It's like waiting until the middle of Dec to introduce a kids toy.
It's just too late to create enough buzz to to make significant sales. I'm not surprised that they would sit until the following year.

Run, don't walk, from anything labelled Tank. I bought new three years ago, from a dealer, and I am still waiting for warranty parts. The dealer has been great, even offered to buy it back from me, but Tank's parts support, or any support, sucks. He cannot get anything from them for the products he sold.
