W&G is amassing a fine collection of broken XR200 engines!

I have a pile of stuff for him growing in the corner of the garage!

Old XR stuff isn't growing on trees. We have a top end and most of a lower end, but we think we can build a complete engine with donations from you fine gentlemen. It'll pay to have a spare.

It will do my heart good to help.

For all we know a rebore and some valve seals and a little detail work my old engine will be good for another generation of service.

I might have to come steal it, and a frame. 8O

It's yours my friend. I have two rolling chassis XR200 bikes for parts (not R versions). A Lifan engine would be a fun project.

Whatever it takes for us to be able to ride.

Okay. I actually clean out some things from the shed and push the xr in there. Got the engine loosely bolted in. Everything fit just fine. Just need a few pieces to make it go.

Will need a sprocket, chain, and the rear brake pedal and rod assembly.

Also missing the front brake lever and perch, but I have one from a pit bike that I think will work.

Stand by for the sprocket. Larry from Hooper Imports may have sent me an extra I will see if its in the mailbox next week. If he did I'll forward it to you.

Did you get the rear lower mount through the motor OK?

Well, I already ordered the sprocket. . Found a brake pedal and rod etc on ebay and got that coming.

Still need a chain and the air filter. Going to have to put together a wiring harness for it. Clean the carb.

So while the parts are coming I will concentrate on the wiring part of it. That is going to be the most difficult portion.

All of the bolts fit in just fine. I am using all the mounts. Fortunately all the stock honda hardware was there.

Doc, what filter and chain did you use?

I'll help you via phone on the wiring if you need. Its not hard, but time consuming and a little nerve racking. I soldered and shrink tubed all my connections.

The chain is a 520, if you stick with the stock rear sprocket and the special front sprocket Doc used.

Doc, any chance we can see a photo of the new sprocket you installed, and learn how it's different from the 520 stock XR200R?

I ordered one of those sprockets from hooper. The chain that came with the bike is far too rough to use.

Doc, when I get all my wiring laid out I will probably call you. Will need to find my soldering iron.

I believe I have everything I need to put the xr together either here or on the way.

Checked out my wiring situation. Between the stock XR wiring and the remnants of china wiring I have all the connections covered. Going to try and set up the electric start too.

Sprocket, chain, air filter, brake parts and a new cdi on there way. That should be all the parts I am missing. Somehow managed to misplace the CDI unit. Good thing they are cheap.

Next step will be the wiring harness and building a battery box.

Do you have a cheap source for ammo boxes? I figure that one could house the battery and ignition stuff, while keeping it really dry. You'd want to drill a hole in the bottom to feed the battery tube out.

Ammo boxes are great because the lids are removable, and they are very durable. Being steel, you could easily weld a bracket on that would bolt to your frame.

I have one, but it is much too large. There use to be a store that carried some, but they closed up.

That said, I stay out of mud and water. I don't like the clean up. This is getting exciting. My first real full size dirt bike.
