Isn't black a sign of the carb being too rich?
True...but you can't just take a spark plug out and get a proper reading, if you were checking the main jet then you would have to go full throttle for about 20-30seconds then cut the ignition and then read the plug, same for the midrange as about 5/8-3/4 throttle and same for the idle. But without doing the test like that then it's hard to say where you are rich.
Are you still running the stock plug?, they are not very good and could also lead to the black fouled plug you seen, i'd start with a fresh NGK CR7HSA, you can get them at Canadain Tire, part # 018-3670-6, there about $7.99 for a two pack.

I'm running the Champion spark plugs on my atv since from last year.

I'll change it out to whatever they have in stock at crappy tire. Last year when I went there, they only had the Champion plugs in stock. It seems that they stopped selling the NGK two pack ones, or it could be a coincidence. Either case, I still need a new spark plug, either it be NGK or Champion, anything is better than the Chinese ones...

Well.... #1 make sure there is still gas left in the tank, #2 make sure the fuel shut off is on ( if you have one ), #3 check spark plug for foriegn aluminum pcs melted on it ( that's a bad sign), #4 check spark, #5 check compression.
#1 should be "make sure the kill switch isn't on". Think we've all been there...

Good point, and also that rear tether switch can be troublesome.
