hy my stator went out pretty early and caused similar problems before it died. i think it was around 7,000 miles that my cdi went bad. it also caused the motorcycle to die soon after starting. if you check the charging voltage and it is atleast 12.5 to 14 volts when running the stator should be good. that would lean towards cdi. also you may want to check compression if you think you have good spark.

i hope this helps shawn

btw: has anyone tried to fit the yamaha tw 200 cdi?
I agree. I'm not sure I understand Rogi's problem, but the CDI unit is definitely suspect. I always recommend buying a spare CDI unit; if your CDI unit fails, you can just plug in the spare CDI unit and go riding. The spare CDI unit also helps a great deal when troubleshooting electrical problems.

A CDI usually looks like this:

This is a rectifier:

The connectors might be a little different, but you get the idea. Depending on which type you buy, a new CDI is usually $15.00 or $20.00 US.

The Yamaha CDI unit will probably cost twice as much as the Zongshen CDI unit. Also, the Yamaha CDI unit has ten connectors, while the Zongshen CDI unit has eight connectors. After examining the wiring diagrams for both motorcycles, I don't believe the Yamaha CDI unit will work in your Zongshen 200GY-2 motorcycle.

Do you have another way to buy a CDI? Can you use eBay?

You're doing fine.

Spud, can you show rogi75ri which CDI he would need?
