So, 60 mph blowout on the pusher tire today. A little exciting, but no terror. Just an “Aw, shit” and ease on to the shoulder. Took maybe a half hour to swap wheels. What was different was that three other riders stopped to see if I needed help. I didn’t but it was nice that someone finally stopped.
Anyway, we’ve had a ton of rain this month and the ground is saturated. That made using my little scissor jack a bit dicey. I finally found something the owners manual was good for.

Took the Chevy in for some much needed maintenance yesterday. Too bad I had forgotten that I needed to pick up the 1x8 shelving for the garage. Ural to the rescue.
Kind of wish I hadn’t picked the hottest day of the year to install those shelves. I was glad when I ran out of brackets.

I saw a Ural with side car waiting in line for the Galveston Ferry last weekend. He was getting tons of attention.
-I was leaving the ferry or I would have stopped and checked it out.

Brought the Ural into the 1960s with a spin on oil filter and adapter.

My 52 Chevy 3100 had a 55 six banger that the optional oil filter canister similar to the DeSoto. My 52 Ford F2 came standard with block mounted cartridge canister. It was such a leaky PITA that as soon as I found a spin on adapter, I got it.

My wife's Triumph Spitfire had the canister where you unscrewed it and replaced the element that looked like a roll of toilet paper. So messy!

Forty mile per hour flat tire day. Loss of control was instant, the damn ditch was deep, I missed the power pole, and I kept the rubber side down. Shorts on the other hand...
First time Arpok has ever been on a trailer under my watch. The only reasons it’s on the trailer is I flatted less than four miles from home, it was ungodly hot, and I didn’t feel like working on the uphill side of a ditch. I also found the broken board on the trailer.

What did you hit that did in both tires? I can instantly tell when the tires on the Ural even a couple pounds of air low. I can only imagine what it feels like when the tires are all the pounds low!

I shifted into 4th at around forty, hear an odd noise and next thing I know I’m heading towards the ditch with next to no control. Rear tires skidding through wet grass, front brake locked with the front tire spinning on the rim. Just missed hitting the cedar pole with the sidecar. I thought I might have caught a sharp rock as I had just transitioned from gravel to blacktop. Nope. Crappy tube. No bruising or puncture on the tire. Second one in two months and both newer tubes. So, no more tubes from Amazon. I went to the local-ish Ural dealer and bought two Parts Unlimited heavy duty tubes. Big difference in the thickness of the tubes. The two that went bang aren’t much thicker than bicycle tubes, about 1mm. The Parts Unlimited tubes are at least 4mm thick and a bear to install. Heavy, too. I’ll take the bear over having to fright change my underoos. The price difference wasn’t that much, either.
