To quote Futuramas' Professor Farnsworth, "Good news, everyone".

The foot doc gave me a big thumbs up today. I'm healing well enough to start some minor exercises with my piggies and, with some luck, I can start putting some weight on my foot and get this rock removed in two more weeks.

I saw before and after x-rays, too. My foot is straight now and I've had some titanium hardware installed. The doc was pointing out the differences in the bone alignment between the two prints, stopped in mid sentence and muttered, "I just can't believe you weren't in pain. Your big toe was basically disjointed." Mrs. C did a double take when she saw the 'before' x-ray.

newrider-Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. It is no fun. Got through the Plantar crap with help from the same doc. It's blissful when one day you wake up and realize that you walked across the bed room with normal steps. Unfortunately, you're stuck with the arthritis. I just give mine the finger and carry on. Stress fractures, ouch. Not sure if I've ever had them but it wouldn't surprise me if I just 'walked it off' without knowing any better.

Back to the doc tomorrow. If I done good with my exercises, I'll get to put some weight on my foot.

Man, I hope so. The scooter and I are getting pretty tired of each other. Even after I put a basket, a water bottle cage, an annoyingly loud back up alarm w/flashing lights, and a chrome airplane w/red propeller on it; the little poop has dumped me four times. It's that crummy soapbox derby steering and the skinny tires.

It ain't all bad. I have better mobility than I ever had with crutches. I've been able to go out and about when before I would have begged off. Sunday, I got to see my son in law play hockey(got to see his team get hit for eight goals, too). Today, I rolled around Harbor Freight. And only spent five bucks.

I think I have only been upstairs in the house three times since the surgery. Takes a lot out of me to get up the steps and get around up there(no scooter), so I stay downstairs. Just as well, that's where the fridge is.

I've also been compiling a short list of ADA deficiencies at the office. Nothing major because there isn't a single step in the entire building. Just some small stuff I'm pointing out to management. Most of it wouldn't cost a penny and the bulk of it is the shop bathroom.

So, only one basket of stuff?

Seriously, I hope it goes well with the Doc visit.

Yeah, surprised me, too.

Doc says two more weeks and the cast comes off. I get an air cast thingy then. Also, after the fourth, I get to start putting 'some' weight on the foot. Slowly at first.

I get to drive myself to work tomorrow.

Isn't it amazing the things you miss when you're disabled... If even for a short period time. Congratulations on the great progress

Boy, driving myself to work felt great.

Mrs.C's driving is impeccable, but boring as all get out. Somedays I thought I was riding with Richie Cunninghams' mom. And it's gotten to be a pain to get in and out of the Audi.

Quite the opposite at Chez Weldangrind. I drive far too slowly for most people.

It's after the 4th; how did it go with putting weight on it?

Not too bad, but not great either. I can feel where the stitches are and that's where the most discomfort is. That said, I have been practicing on my crutches at home and have gotten down a pretty decent rhythm for moving around. However, crutches and coffee cups do not mix well at work, so the crutches stay home and the scooter gets the nod during the day.

The cast comes off next Wednesday.

Congratulations on your progress. One of the nice things about starting out fit, is typically a faster and safer recovery. Have a great day.

Thanks, Doc.

The crutches got a workout over the weekend. Drove 1600 miles, from Chez Fromage to Easton, PA and back. I figured Scooty McScootface wouldn't fare too well at tollway potty stops so he stayed in the truck for most of the trip. From the 70 mile marker on the Indiana Toll Road to the Illannoy state line was the worst part of the return ride. Over three hours. My left foot was screaming to get out of the truck.

Last night for Billy. By 10:30am tomorrow, my foot will be free.

I look forward to your next post, maybe you will send a picture of your liberated foot.

That sounds like a long miserable drive, even without a foot in a cast.

Throw in a sick kid prone to panic attacks and it became surreal.

Cast is off. I'll do a pic later, but I gotta tell ya, it's pretty gross out looking. Hasn't been washed in six weeks. There is a 6 to 7 inch incision from my big toe to just about my ankle. Plus the work that was done on the second toe.

Started PT today and have it three times a week for the next two weeks plus a bunch of exercises to be done at home a few times a day. Got me a new Air Cast that is pretty comfortable but too wide to be able to drive the Jeep.

And, I've been using these crutches I have since 2005. This Doc looked at them and asked "Who the hell set these up? They're all wrong for you." He adjusted a few things and they fit much better.

This is all you get to see at the moment.

Mrs.C isn't home right now and I don't know where she hid the deflator for the cast.

That reference wasn't lost on me.

Glad to hear the cast is off. I hope PT goes well.
