new quadcopter

Hey peeps, not much talk about drones but I guess it fits the subject. I just bought a Potensic D85 (also sold as MJX Bugs 3 Pro). This is my second quadcopter, my first one, a Cheerson x20 is sitting at the bottom of a lake in so.Utah. I guess this one would fall into the beginner/intermediate category but it has a lot of cool features. It is GPS enabled that allows you to set way points using the app on your smartphone, it has one button return to home so it will return to where it took off, and it will also return to home when the battery gets low or it loses the signal from the transmitter, altitude hold, ect. Real time video when using the app. The camera doesnt look all that great but you can mount a gopro on it. It also has "follow me mode", it will follow you and record video. I feels really sturdy and comes with a aluminum carrying case. Also comes with two 7.4v 2800 mah batteries that will give you about 15-20 minute flight times, and they will send you a free battery for leaving a "honest" review on Amazon. not bad. Brushless motors too. Havent got a chance to fly it outside yet, but if the weather cooperates this weekend I'll see if I can get it to follow me on my Hellcat.

wow, just noticed the price is now $279, I bought mine two days ago for $219 guess I got a deal.

Nice quads. I have a Hubsan 501s. The GPS feature is nice. It also has the follow me mode too.

My 260 is a hobbyking black widow. basic fpv quad. Frame parts are hard to find so i might have to print some or change to a cf frame. I don't have it set up for fpv yet and just fly line of sight. I also don't race, just something fun to rip around with. No gps, no autopilot on these, you have to fly them.

I have an sk450 too but its not as fun to fly as the 260 currently. I had put extended landing gear on it and it had a negative effect on the flight characteristics so i need to put it back to the short ones. I wish i had more time to put in to the quads, planes and trucks but they are pretty well neglected any more.

The PayPal scam

I recently ordered a RC car and my phone's 'auto fill' function put in my old address instead of my current one. So I contacted the seller and had him cancel the order and refund the money to my PayPal account, so I could re-order the car again with the correct shipping address. And PayPal sent me a message saying the money has been refunded. And we're talking several hundred dollars, it's an expensive car.

Well I try to place the order again and it comes back 'insufficient funds', so I call my bank and they haven't received the credit from PayPal. So I do some research and it typically takes PayPal 3 to 5 business days for a refund, and it may take as many as 30 days!

Now come on, PayPal can instantly access my account and pay a seller in microseconds, but it takes days to return my money? We all know any time money sits anywhere, even for only a few days it's earning interest at some slight rate. I guarantee you that's what PayPal is doing. So I guess it will be a while before I get my new RC.

Refunds are always slower, card issuers/banks delay the transaction and have varying policies on how they do it. Processors like PayPal or card merchants also have their own polices and time frames. A lot of it is to curb fraud, some is just "policy" but it's annoying. My credit union will show refunds or reversed transactions as pending within minutes, but it takes a few days to settle.

Where I'll be screwed is this is a 'black Friday' deal and if I can't order it by Friday night I'll have to pay an additional $50..

Good news! I waited till after 9am this morning and re-submitted the order for my car in the hope that PayPal had refunded my money, and it went through!

And I was wrong about the $50 off black Friday deal, it was actually $100 off a $550 car!

Now because it's a holiday the order won't be processed till tomorrow or Monday, and shipping is 3 days so I probably won't get it till Thursday or Friday of next week.. But I'm stoked!

Check this out, a fella from Uruguay who builds custom cars and trucks, and builds his own custom turbos made this. That's a 70cc head and piston off a Yamaha scooter, and made the custom pipe as well.

Nitro vs 2 smoke

What did you boys say a gallon of fuel costs to run your little (teeny tiny ) nitro cars, $35? Even with buying the most expensive Amsoil Dominator racing oil and 93 octane it works out to only $8 a gallon at 25:1..

And since I made the crack about tiny I'm sure Jerry will chime in about his T-Maxx. But when I'm done it will be 40" long and 31.5" wide, and with the 3 speed auto trans I'll be able to outrun most Hawks.. Let the spending begin!

(If ya can't tell, I'm getting a little impatient.. is it Tuesday yet?)

2 stroke is much cheaper to run. I always wanted to get a 2 stroke. My little Jato 3.3 did run 65+ mph. 68 mph GPS was the fastest it ran.

The "official" record for a naturally aspirated one of these with a pnpd stock engine is 68mph. Also I'm willing to bet that Jato didn't weigh 40lbs. But they make a neat little supercharger that is belt driven off the flywheel, and you can buy heads that run reeds, and twin cylinders etc.

10 years ago they came out with troublesome automatic transmissions, but they've since worked the bugs out. I can get a 2 speed for around $200 and a 3 speed for $300. The possibilities are endless with this thing and you could easily spend 3 to 5k on one.
