hey b, do they exhaust test up there or are you out of the jurisdiction. i believe in Harris county Houston TX it's part of the inspection. good info on the air box comment. thanks.

i live in illinois, no testing, but it is $101/year for car plates here ... think $40 for a bike ... thinking i may need to go up another jet size as well, but ill try exhaust stuff first

well, the first try at busting out the cat was a huge fail ... fail #2 was trying to take out the factory baffle, it seems to be welded in and i just do not seem to be able to locate a slip on that will even get close to matching the angle that the factory muffler has on it ... it drops about 4" at about 45 degrees before it goes into the pipe (also all welded) ... it did sound quite good with just the header, but i thought the wife and/or the neighbors may kill me, seeing as how i leave for work at 10:40pm and get home at 7:45am ... ... thinking maybe if i can find a long spring from an old storm door, i may be able to get something on the end that will cut into that cat ... but i am also going to look into getting a header made that will make it easier to get a slip on to fit how i want it to under the stock side panel

I just noticed barlow... you said a vm26 carb... isnt that a 26mm carb... that would probably be fantastic on 200gy...but your on a 250cc class ( well 229cc...but still larger engine...) top end may need to breath more... maybe a vm28 or trusty vm30 ? that vm26 is running about the biggest jets it can... perhaps its just leaning out? Im no china bike expert, but I been turning wrenches for almost 30 years... learned a thing or two... lean likes down low.. rich likes top end... i think you may gain more top end by going to a 30mm carb, but the trade off may be a few mpgs... just saying...

it says 30mm, but i think it is only 28 at intake, i guess i should have looked at other stores before i got one, the wife will not be happy at all when i get another one ... lol ... do you know for sure if the vm30 will bolt directly to the intake?

EDIT:looking at ebay, the vm30 will need a new intake, and they all say 30mm (vm26, vm28, vm30) so now i am not sure what to do, lol ... think i am going to take the dremel to the factory carb and see if i can open it up to just short of the slide size, i do not need it any more, so no loss when i mess it up

This is the one I got for my 167FMM (229) in my Rhino. Works great. 115 main/30 pilot, clip on the fourth notch, idle mixture at about 2 turns out.

same 1 i have, only i have 40/115 jets ... 1 1/2 turns out and clip 1 notch down from center (4th i think) ... i am going out to check valves again, maybe they need adjusted again ... then i am going to play with the factory carb, see if i can port it a little closer to the size of the slide with the dremel ... if i mess it up, it is no loss ... i am thinking of opening just the top a bit for wot use ... i dont know what jets are in it, but i know they are small, maybe one of the other sets i have will fit it
