I'm looking forward to seeing your new lathe in action.

Me too. Can’t wait to get my hands on it. The lathe will help me a great deal with my Spade project bike.

I know this may be a dumb question, but has any one experimented with putting larger wheels and tires on the Kymco Spade?Probably would need a longer swing arm, but it seems like it wouldn't be to hard.

I’m thinking about it. 14” wheels are available for the Grom. Since I’m using Grom wheels, they would work on my bike. The tire selection is limited though.

Great mods.. thx for sharing. Can you please share where you found the 14" rims for the Spade? I agree on the poor tire selection for 14s.. however, there are some decent Chinese and Taiwanese 14" dual tires. Not like we'll be doing 120mph...! Thanks CK

I found them on eBay. You should be able to do a search and find them. I’ll try to post a link.

I just realized that the Kymco Spade looks pretty similar to the Suzuki Vanvan 200. Anyone know if there are engine swaps available? How is the aftermarket support for the Kymco Spade?
I didn't see a lot of aftermarket development yet considering it's been out for a year or so. I'd like to pick one up to go with my Grom clone. I like the whole cafe racer style. |

Aftermarket here in US is terrible. Steady Garage and MNNTHBX.COM are really the only ones with a small selection of mods. However, in Taiwan, the aftermarket is booming. The bike is called the A.I.R. 150i there... From what I've gathered from multiple Taiwanese suppliers, is that there are 175cc, 200cc and 250cc engines that will bolt in with little or no modification. Here's what I'm looking at as a possible swap: https://goods.ruten.com.tw/item/show?21746326643611 The red top is a racing motor... great if your building a truly nimble, mini Cafe Racer. However, if you do go with the bigger motors, I would highly recommend that you stretch the bike's wheelbase... MNNTHBOX has what you'll need for that mod. In addition, with the 250cc, you'll need to modify the top mount. (Note: ruten.com is a great site for Kymco parts and accesories. Use chrome to translate) These guys have been very helpful and have great stuff for the Spade. https://m.facebook.com/pg/mini.mon.75/about/ I hope you get one...they are a blast!! And it sure would be nice to have another member on the board who's interested in modding their Spade. Good luck!! CK

^^ Dang.... there we go...
250cc in that thing would be a monster. Would be like the ZS190 swap on the grom clones. Hope it takes off here in the US more. |

I was wondering if you could give a quick summary of what mods were required, and what you did to use Grom wheels on the Spade. For example...how did you deal with the axle size diff, bearings, final drive, and the rear drum to disc brake conversion/add? In regards to brake mod, any links you can provide on the parts you used would be extremely helpful. Thank you very much! CK

Because if there really is a possibility to get a bigger engine, larger wheels and a longer swingarm would really help in deciding to get a Spade and modifing it down the road. |

Does the spade use a CG style engine? If so... that should make engine swap selections pretty easy to find.

This might help to show what I mean. The Grom front wheel is a direct bolt-on for the Spade.

I have decided to sell my KYMCO Spade. Yesterday, my wife and I drove down to Motorcycles of Dulles and picked up a new leftover 2018 Royal Enfield Himalayan. If anyone needs parts for a Spade or Honda Grom please contact me.
The Himalayan will serve me better than the Spade. The deal was so good that I could not pass it up. $4195 with minimal fees, the temp tag was $2. I’ll license it and pay the taxes myself and they gave me a $300 store credit. The credit got me a new Klim riding jacket. The Himalayan is very smooth and is the perfect size. A PowerTRONIC efi tuner is on the way from Amazon India. The only other additions will be Royal Enfield side brackets, panniers and aluminum handlebars. I just plan to ride this one. No crazy mods. No more projects, just getting too old to keep fiddling with endless modifications. I will start a Himalayan thread. SamM
