With a 229cc, you might need a 30 slow and a 112.5 or even a 115 main.

Mine is operating at 6000 ft elevation, but I opened the air box, changed the to a foam filter and opened up the exhaust. I did a 30 primary and 115 main with the needle clip in the center position this worked great for me. If the intake and exhaust are staying stock I would say the these jet sizes would be a good starting point. If mods are in the future you may want to go a bit richer on them. (Up in size number) i ordered all my jets from jetsrus.com

I put in the new carb today, just have the stock jets in it, but it already runs way better. I dont know what model the carb is to buy new jets for it.

The slow jet type is VM28/486 and the main jet type is N100.604.

I'm 200 feet above sea level and I run a 110 main and the stock pilot withe the needle set at the bottom. I'm 1.5 turns out and it runs great. I will eventually change out the pilot so I don't need to be so rich on the needle. But for now I just like the way it runs. Good luck.

My Hawk below 4000 rpm has hiccups. What could be the problem?.It feels like fuel or air cuts off for a split of a second then it surges forward.

Chuck, please describe your problem in more detail. How many miles have you got on it. Did it just start doing it. Have you changed the spark plug to an Iradium one made by NGK or Denso, in Japan. Does it still have the stock carburetor. Etc.,etc.

Chuck :
Is this problem only "when the RPMs are below 4,000 no matter the throttle position*" or is it also with "Throttle specific*, while below 4,000 RPMs" * 0 to 1/4 throttle 1/4 - 3/4 throttle 1/2 - 3/4 throttle 3/4 - full throttle ? What does rolling on and off the throttle between full, roll off to 1/2 and back up to 3/4 or full throttle ? When was the last time you checked and set the valves?
