Tach's Done!

Got it finished up last night after work. Between the tight after-work sched and the brutal heat as of late, it took me a couple nights to get this done.

I ended up finding a much better spot for it, besides between the handlebar mounts. For those looking for a cheap alternative or just something to get you through break in, I think it'll do just fine.

The drawbacks are it's digital. It reads sample time though it is fairly quick on the read. It's not "live", like that super-nice setup that mjstef has made for us all. After all, nothing replaces a sweeping needle.

Also, it never shuts off. When the bikes not running, it displays an hour meter. How long the battery will last, I have no clue. That said, I think it works well, looks really nice in it's spot and it matches pretty well. I stuck it on with a little double sided foam tape.

I have a PET 2000 I bought in tokyo back in the 90's. It still works great, and it is fast to react. I used it on my race bike, no problems. cheap tach's often have too much lag before the reading catches up to the motor. fine for steady state type situations, but not for judging redline.

Piece-o-cake. It's all one piece. You feed the one wire down to the plug wire, snip it the correct length (they give you a bunch), then trim off the outer jacket to expose the red "sensor" wire on the inside, then wrap (coil) the red wire around the plug wire about 5-6 times. I then wrapped it with electrical tape to hold it on tight. Then I sticky taped the gauge to the ignition switch and VIOLA! Tach....

I like your tach BUT, you r going to really have to look down(i.e away from ahead) to see it

Not me! Mrs. 2LZ! ;-)
It's really not as far down as it looks being pretty close to the speedo. It's "glance-able".

Took MSO in register in MN and get MN custom plate Z TT250. No other Motorcycle in MN will ever get this licence plate.
The last 3 numbers of my VIN are 250. Nobody else will have this on a CB.

I forgot to post, I called in the other day to pay the balance for my bike and they said I was "in the next few" to be prepped, so I'm waiting on the edge of my seat to hear back from them. That'd be really cool to get a custom plate, maybe I'll look into it...

insurance

I'm trying to sign up for insurance at Progressives web site. Adding the CSC TT250 to my policy with my other 2 bikes.

They don't have CSC as a manufacturer in the pull down list, nor do they have Zongshen.

What are folks using?

Mike

When I called Progressive to get an idea of how much to plan for with the TT250, it wasn't in their system but the rep I spoke to was able to use the CSC website and my description of the bike to come up with a preliminary figure. She actually gave me the option of continuing my old bike's policy with the new bike before it even arrived, but I didn't know how long it would be until I got the bike, so she didn't actually add it at that point. I do plan to use Progressive whenever my bike arrives, but I'll certainly call them instead of trying to use the online menu that's designed for major brands.

I did an online quote from GEICO. They had "California Scooter" as a manufacturer in their dropdown list. They didn't have the TT250, but they ask what type of motorcycle and dual sport (or on/off road or something like that) was a choice. Then they asked for displacement and that was enough to satisfy the quote engine so it gave me a quote.

At that point when I got the online quote a few days ago I was just getting a quote to get a ballpark rate. I want to wait until I actually have the bike in my possession before I get insurance on it and then I will have the VIN too. So far it looks like it won't be a problem (fingers crossed).

I used other on the Progressive website for my Hawk. My insurance card has 2015 RPS Hawk on it.
