Btw, seems that Puzey from South Africa will be selling this bike under their brand too:

Hey Fish, I'm pretty certain the camo is a wrap job. Should be relatively inexpensive if you DIY.

I think the camo is a good look for a sportsmen's exposition. The CSC folks should get many people stopping by to check out the bike.

Wow this is great news. The RX-3 will be perfect for Southern Africa. If the price is right this could be a great purchase for a fly and ride. Most rentals in ZA are about a 1000ZAR a day. Say it retails for 45000ZAR one might break about even after a 30 day trip. I'm assuming some residual resale value.

The camo looks great I think for hunters and farmers but out on the open road I want to be seen by cagers with as bright a color as I can get. And going south of the border I think someone may think it's military/police and take a few shots at it ????? But it does look cool I hafta admit. rj

Ha, I was thinking the exact same thing. South of the border one could be mistake as some sort of military police commando.

The Africans have been chatting about the Zongshen RX3 for a while. In addition to South Africa, the RX3 is also going to be sold in Zimbabwe, Rhodesia.

Just a quick shout out to all you folks who've contributed to this thread and gotten your concerns heard (and acted upon) by CSC. Thanks for doing the ground work.

I've spent the last few hours going through the entire thread and I am glad I did. Although I (perhaps) foolishly ignored the opportunity to jump on the boat at the introductory price, I'm pretty well convinced this is my next lightweight backroads touring bike. My current one is a 2002 XT 225:

I've been looking to replace the XT with something a little more modern and with a little more power. The Yammy has 18hp and 14 ft/lbs of torque and weighs 238 dry. The RX3 is at 25 hp and 17 ft/lbs, but a whopping 386 lbs.

I wonder if the added hp and torque of the RX3 will be a wash compared to the XT because of the large weight difference? Any educated opinions?

Cheers,

I agree, the camouflage RX3 will attract some attention at the Sacramento International Sportsmen’s Exposition. CSC will be dislplaying the camo bike in Sacramento this week.

Welcome, we are glad you joined us, Dan.

The Yamaha XT225 is a great motorcycle. Thanks for posting the beautiful photo.

I'm sure the Zongshen RX3 will outperform the XT225 on pavement, and will carry heavier loads with aplomb. If the bikes are equally loaded, I think the RX3 will perform as well, or better, during off road, adventure riding. However, when the XT225 is unloaded, it will certainly be a much better dirt bike than the RX3.

Just running pure hp/weight ratios the XT225 is a clear winner.

XT225 1/13.22
RX-3 1/14.36

Looking at those boxs on your XT I'll bet your looking at pushing another 30lbs through the air. That being said I agree with your initial assessment and it being a wash. Horsepower to weight ratios really don't tell the whole story.

.The RX appears to be very similar in internal engine dimensions to the WR250r and loves to be wrapped out making lots of power on the upper end, hence better high speed highway performance. I currently ride a CRF250L and it makes all it's power down low, after 70mph on the highway it's pretty much done. I agree with Spud, this bike will be a better Adv Bike than Dual Sport.

Love your XT225 and welcome aboard. Used to live over the hill from you in Silverthorne.

Welcome, DanKearney! Thanks for joining us.

You have a terrific collection of bikes, and I'm sure we'd all love to see more of them in a new thread, if you have time.

Hey Joe,

I read the blog just now. I don't blame you for taking all the negativity a bit personally. I kind of did too, when I read the comments on the yahoo autos page. Good for you for responding to some of them. Like all internet badasses, they won't come back for a discussion. It's easy to be a bad mofo from your mom's basement. But, as you said. Any pub is good pub. I hope you get a pile of sales from this. I'm glad I got in on the ground floor of this.
