A Little R&R

At a B&B.

Mrs. C and I are in Puerto Rico for our anniversary. Number 42, I think. That's the answer, anyway.(Douglas Adams fans will get the reference) We are staying at a great B&B located in the EL Yunque National Forest, on a mountain, looking down at the Caribbean Sea.

A lot of green and humidity, plus on and off rain. Not much for visible wildlife unless you count these little guys.

After sunset, though, the tree frogs go nuts and it is quite loud but easy to fall asleep to.

Had a great dinner at a local watering hole Sunday night. Chorizo empanadas for appetizers and baked salmon on a bed of coconut rice. I think I died and went to heaven.

We are both kicked back in hammocks, enjoying a cold beverage and I have just taken the battery out of my cell phone. Which is another story in itself.

Awesome.

HAPPY ANNIVERSERY!!!

I once swore to myself I'd never live in a place without palm trees. Go figure.

You two earned the trip. Walking barefoot on the beach will be good for your healing foot :-)

Cute little lizard creature. I didn't know God made them that small.

There are some here that are barely an inch long. There was a 4 foot long Iguana strolling along the runway at the airport, though.

BB-Three words for you. Gene And Judes. Best hot dogs anywhere. Head south on River Rd. A couple blocks south of Belmont, after you cross the tracks. On your right. Don't embarrass yourself by ordering one with ketchup. You will be shown the door. Cash only.
I worked in Franklin Park for 23 years.

Last full day today. We went into Old San Juan and actually managed to find some on street parking near the government buildings. We strolled over to San Cristobol, a 17th century fort. For whatever reason, today was beastly hot. It made touring the fort miserable. Mrs C even had a Gatorade, and she hates the stuff.

We decided to cut the expedition short because of the heat and motored back towards the B&B while trying to figure out something else to do that hopefully involved AC. About halfway there, Mrs. C remembered the Bacardi Rum Tour. So I pulled youee and headed back to San Juan.

The tour was well worth it, especially the free cocktail. First time I ever had a Cuba Libre(Rum and Coke) that I liked. Lime makes all the difference. Spent a few bucks at the gift shop. This is what an $80 bottle of rum looks like.

We were able to get it engraved with today's date, which is our anniversary. Very special occasion stuff.

Back home tomorrow night and back to reality on Monday.

Last time I was up there I noticed the catered lunch sausage was the best stuff I had ever tasted. Don't know how they do those Chicago sausage but it was insane good.

Got home last night. Had a great time, ate some really good food, and met some great people. That said said, it was nice to step off the plane into cooler temps and less humidity. First stop out of O'hare, though.

Needed some simple fare. That's the place you need to look for, BB.

Looks like a place you might see a retired cop car with 2 men wearing sunglasses at night.

Will be next to life fitness at the best worstern and won't have a car but looks like a place I would be at if I had the chance. Those kind of places are usually the best, just look for the 9ne with the most cars.

I had NEVER heard of this place, so I borrowed your photo, Cheesy, posted it to Facebook, and low and behold, all my Chicago relatives and friends are telling me how great this place is. One even mentioned that if you want ketchup, you have to go around the corner to the McDonald's to purchase it, LOL

I am wondering why none have taken me there all these years....

Maybe they were trying to keep it a secret?

We don't get there very often anymore. Only if we have some doings in the area do we stop. And it has to be both of us or I catch hell for not bringing anything back with me. And we live about an hour away.

Several years ago, I picked up my oldest and a bunch of her friends from college at O'hare. Shan suggested I spring for lunch at Gene and Judes, which she didn't to say need twice. One girl was from Boston, the other girl was from Atlanta, and the guy, who is now my son in law, was from Easton, PA. The two girls got dogs with everything and were OMG OMG OMG, these are so good. BJ was going through his vegetarian phase and only wanted fries.

An order of fries is about a pound of potatoes, so you won't starve, your A1C goes up, as does your cholesterol. BJ took one look at the bag an said, "They're so greasy, I don't think I can eat them." I said, "Fine. I'll take 'em." Shan said, "BJ, quit being such a damn pussy and try them." He ate the entire bag. I'm still not sure if he liked them or if Shan scared him.

I must be succumbing to the reality of returning to work tomorrow. I've removed the Citizen Eco-Drive watch from my left wrist and replaced it with the Casio G-Shock.
