I was invited to enter the Enfield in a motorcycle show last night.

The big bike show in my area of Eastern Washington is Hogs And Dogs. About 2,000 bikes show up, and there are about 50-75 in the show per se.

Last year I won Best Classic with my restored 1972 Honda CB175 Super Sport. This is the bike I sold to buy the Enfield.

This year I was not planning on competing. I parked it all the other bikes in general parking. It attracted a lot of attention there. I walked off to visit with some friends.

When I walked by later, there were several show judges admiring the Enfield, and they invited me to join the show! ;D

The bike was clean but not detailed, but show worthy so I rode it over. I did not know what category to enter it in, but seeing that there were few British or European classics there, I picked that class. The Enfield won, but I sorta cheated because it's simply a showroom new 'antique'. 8)

I was up front about this but no one seemed to mind, it's a low key fun event.

Still, I have found that when I put a bike up for sale, mentioning that it is a show winner with a trophy to prove it is very helpful.

I entered my Ural in a British Bike meet in GA in the "other" class. No trophy but a lot of fun.

I'd have given it a trophy for sure! Amazing bike.

I still think you need an Enfield.

That's a lovely bike. Out of curiosity, which bike won?

I didn't stay around for the results as it started to rain and I had a long ride home.

I'm thinking it was an old Montgomery Ward bike that was getting the most votes. We were the stepchild bikes of the Brit Bike meet and out on the grass. Kinda funny that there was not another sidecar rig at the meet.

Us old guys remember when Monkey Wards, Sears, and others sold re-branded bikes. I had an Monkey Wards Ducati 250 and my wife had a Sears 50 something back in the 60's. Doesn't seem that long ago.

Threat hijack:
I was having breakfast last Sunday at the Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort at the start of the Dragon when one of the guys came back after crashing. He had his off at mile marker 5 and had gotten a ride back as his bike was way down the mountain. Luckily he had on the full racer boy attire so just had a minor scratch besides wounded pride. We rode to the crash site hoping to pull his bike up the hill. If you call a wrecker then they have to call the police and you get a ticket so we avoid wreckers if possible.

Anyway his Mom and his significant other arrived with his truck and they are not happy. Much heated discussion and at one point the women said to just leave the bike down the hill. It was a newer Honda big sport bike and the plastic was everywhere.

They only had some tie downs which we strung together but they were not up to the task and kept breaking.

Some of the guys took off to get some cable and come alongs and I took off for home. They managed to pull the totaled bike up the later. I now have a 30' towing strap in the trunk of my Ural as this is not an unusual occurrence here in the mountains.
Hijack off.

I'm glad you took the time to share the story.

The risk/benefit ratio of street racing, while it used to appeal to me, as I get older is NOT worth it.

Thank God I've never put a high performance street bike in the trees but I certainly could have based on how hard I used to ride.

Nowadays I will still ride hard, but no more than about 8/10's. The Ducati can go much, much faster but I can't/won't.

I'm glad the kid was OK and you were there to help.

Enjoying a ride through the 'twisties' is great. However, if people want to race, they should go to a track. The streets are not for racing. If you race on the street, you not only endanger yourself, you also endanger others.

Yep, there are a lot of crashes around here. Not just the boy racers but a lot of cruisers too. I'm probably riding at 50% now days.

Thanks for sharing the story, Barnone.

I love being able to wring out 200cc, and still not hurt myself or others. Couldn't do that with a powerful bike.
