Bigger engines for Chinese bikes?
Does anyone know if there are other Chinese bikes with bigger engines? I love the hawk, it’s a blast to ride, but I can’t ride it on the freeway.
If they aren’t made, does anyone know why not? |

Not many 250cc bikes are really highway capable. Even the more powerful stuff from Japan and Europe are being pushed fairly hard at 70mph, so while they can go faster, they lack passing power.
If you specifically want a more powerful Enduro like the Hawk, then for a 250cc bike you would be looking at the SSR SR250 or the Pitster Pro LXR250F/GPX Moto FSE250R. There are a couple of 450 class bikes out there. The SSR SR450, or GPX FSE450R. In any case, you are spending quite a bit more than the cheap Hawks and Bashans. These are more serious bikes with more serious hardware, and the price reflects that. Starting at $3900 and going up past $6000. As far as road bikes go, there are a few out there that were sold in the US. You can keep your eyes out for a CF Moto 650NK. There are a few new ones still floating around out there. The Benelli 600 and 300 are both sold in the U.S. Again, these bikes are generally several thousand dollars. You can still find 2014 and 2015 CF Moto 650's for sale with zero miles on them. It might be possible to get them at a heavy discount so the dealer can just get rid of it lol.

If I were to build my perfect Chinese enduro, I would gladly take a Hawk or TT250 with better front and rear susension and a 350-400cc air cooled single making about 25hp with the reliability of the CG250. That would literally make it all the bike I would ever want or need. Price it up to $3000 or so and I would still buy it.

By the time you found a big bore engine and got it sorted out in the Hawk, you could probably have bought a used 250-300 Ninja that can hit 100mph (eventually).
Consider adding a used Ninja to you stable and keep the Hawk for the trails.

Nobody is talking about an engine swap here. This is about other bikes with larger engines.

By the time you start looking at the price of bigger engine Chinese bikes, your probably better off going for a nice used drz400s.... hell even 2019 drz400s’ are going new for just over $5700 near me.....
I feel one of the coolest things about these “smaller” engine Chinese bikes is the price point, $1300 to my door brand new? That’s crazy to me. Quality fits the price well I think, a couple extra tweaks and add ons, and you can have a nice bike for cheap!

I am hoping and guessing that with the rollout of fuel-injection, the bikes might get a slight bump in power; I do know that American Lifan's head guy told me that they are going to put the KP200/KPR200's fuel-injected/liquid-cooled engine in the XPect enduro making it 'more' than just another Chinese 200/229cc enduro. Hawk is supposed to be fuel-injected any day now.
